Jennifer Maestre's Pencil Sculptures

We've featured Jennifer Maestre's pencil sculptures before, but Rueben Miller's got some of her creations that we've never seen before. LIke this cute and spiky sculpture called "Basilisk."

From Rueben's interview:

RM: Do you buy pencils in bulk quantities? How many do you estimate
you've used in the last year?
JM: Yes, I do buy in bulk, if I can. I'm very sad that one of my sources has been bought up by a Mega Corporation with a very un-user friendly website- no way to figure out how to get a case of pencils!
On the other hand, a very nice German pencil company sent me 2 cases of gorgeous pencils for free. They are seconds, but I for one can't find any fault with them.

It is tough for me to estimate, but I reckon I've used at least 5,000 pencils, just for sculptures, not including the jewelry.

I love the pencil design! Last November I had a story about 2 designers from Cornwall/UK who built a Pencil Bench. The seat is made up of 1600 pencils which are individually sprung. Each pencil can be removed and used. Price £1200

I bought one of her pencil pendants for a friend for christmas, they loved it, they were like this is so unique, and I was like can you tell what it is made of, and she had no idea that it was pencils. The best part of making jewelry out of pencils is even though it was a fairly large pendant, it was so light!
