Self-portrait of an alleged thief.

Bill MacEwen was the victim of a robbery last week. The burglars took two iMacs and four laptops. Today, this unknown person uploaded a picture of himself to MacEwen’s Flickr account. Someone on the internet should be able to identify him. http://billmacewen.com/blog/2007/09/24/name-that-theif/ -via Metafilter

You might want to change this to -alleged- thief to protect yourself from allegations of libel. To be fair: this might not be the thief-- he could've bought it off craigslist unaware that it was stolen merchandise...

Or the thief could be deliberately putting out a false clue - a red herring.

Why didn't the original owner change his password?

Sounds like an urban legend.

someone broke into my place on Friday. they took one of my computers, a guitar and some recording equipment. i would hope that they would do something like this too, but ive already gone in and changed all my passwords for stuff. they left behind all the accessories for the computer though... like the remote control and the pen for the drawing tablet. i guess ill have spares for when i replace the stuff...

Is it me or are there ALOT of coincidental articles here that JUST happen to have something to do with Aliens? (check out that tattoo on his left arm) :o Unconscious alien influences from the Meteorite crash?!

I was repairing a computer for a couple one time, and I checked to see how much RAM was in it. That's when I discovered that the computer was stolen from another of my clients.

The best part is that they had wiped all of the personal files of the hard drive EXCEPT for their photos they took with the stolen webcam!

When the cop arrived all he had to do was look at the pictures to verify their hunches about the theives in question.

its probably the guy who bought it. that would be my dumb luck. if it isn't, hopefully someone finds him. i hate to hear when this happens.

alright everybody, lets go tattoo hunting.....

the saddest thing about all this to me is that if that photo was 10 x 12 feet and back mounted on plexiglas it would look right at home in a contemporary photography exhibit in any international art museum.
*shudder" indeed.

Actually I would be VERY careful with such accusations. If he happens not to be the thief you are in serious trouble. And it's right that you would be. You could destroy this guys life... Or even provoque a mob killing him. Then it's not only slander but a lot more serious.
