Like most of Asia, Thailand experienced exuberant economic expansion in the early to mid Nineties. Construction in Thailand's capital exploded, creating hundreds of new skyscrapers within a few short years. However, when the stock market and currency crashed in 1997, construction halted - leaving half finished "ghost towers" peppered around the city. Also of great interest are the hundreds of various developments that were started outside of Bangkok across the country in rural locations. Most of them have been almost entirely swallowed up and "disappeared" by the humid concrete-destroying climate and the aggressive, super-healthy vegetation.
