A Â£45,000 grand piano was being delivered to the Two Moors Music Festival in Devon when workmen dropped it. Organizers had spent two years raising funds for the piano, which was to be the centerpiece of the festivalâ€™s classical performances. Yikes. It's worth mentioning in their defence that piano movers don't drop pianos very often. So I'm sure they're aware of the magnitude of their error. Though the story says the owners only insured it for what they paid for it at auction, and not what it would actually cost to replace. That's very silly.

I'm trying to figure out why they didn't have the piano all the way on the lift before dropping it???

I understand that they had the wheels in the center point of balance but it still looks like they have enough room to swing it sideways before dropping.

I live very near here so it was on my local news. The delivery company said they would find a replacement piano in time for the festival in two weeks although I'm sure it won't be anywhere near that quality.

@tecwzrd: They were taking the piano off the truck, the organiser was taking these photos and you could see them lowering it down in two photos and then this one.

The crew was then garrotted by the fundraisers with the left over piano wire.

Well if you read the story completely, you can see that the piano only had a little damage and could be completely repaired and that it was still playable... Still, it's like crashing a brand new Bentley, you can fix it, but who would want to?

They bought the piano for Â£45,000, but the insurance officials say it was insured for just Â£26,000. "Experts estimate that a new Bosendorfer would cost approximately Â£90,000"

Some restorer must be very happy. Reminds me of a T-shirt design a few years back for a group of us taking a Risk Management seminar. Highway sign yellow triangle + Falling grand piano icon. We expanded it for the rest of the team (in UK) to include a falling anvil version.
