Skidboot has left us.

Neatorama has received an update on the story of the amazing dog Skidboot.

We were not ready to start our blog just yet but this needed to be mentioned. Skidboot, an amazing dog, has left us. This was an outstanding example of the relationship between owner and dog that faced many an issue and overcame them through effort.
We have put together a brief tribute to Skidboot and David named “Skidboot Has Left Us” on YouTube along with a link to the Texas Country Reporter segment.

Skidboot was neither a Briard (a herding dog of French origin) nor a Gordon setter (a birddog) that we will be writing about in our blog. He and David are an excellent example of that wide and diverse world of partnerships between man and dog that we will also explore.

I first met Skidboot and David at the State Fair of Texas in the late 90’s. It was amazing even then to see the close partnership between them even then. I remember last fall when their story seemed to be everywhere on the internet as well as TV. One of the best segments was the Texas Country Reporter piece by Bob Phillips .They appeared with Leno, Letterman, Oprah and many others. Internet hits were over four million.

The segment points out how Skidboot was not an easy dog to handle in the beginning (a trait that can also be found in both Briards and Gordons). It took work on David’s part to bring out the best in Skidboot. The segment also pointed out that the dog was going blind and the future was uncertain. Monday (3/26/07) David was talking to one of the Dallas radio folks with his “bittersweet news” – Skidboot was dead but now he could see and frolic with the likes of Lassie and Rin Tin Tin.

David will not be alone in missing his partner, Skidboot - millions of others will also!

Push play or go to YouTube. Thanks, Tom.

I am sad this day, knowing that our world is without Skidboot.... what a dog. So smart and obviously a true friend. I enjoyed every moment of the various times I saw Skidboot in action, even before the vids. First time was on Animal Planet ... WOW smart doggie. Heaven is happier with the arrival of Skidboot.
adios amigo

I first heard about Skidboot months ago and I have watched the video (go to Youtube and select the first Skidboot video, the sound is better) many times. I loved this dog and wondered when he was going to die. I'm sad.

I know everyone else has already said it, but my god that was the worse fricken video ever. Its hard to describe it without explatives. I don't understand. For some reason, its quality just made me so pissed off. Who the hell would select that music track, and cut it off for 5 second clips and start it back up again. Who the hell would write those cheesy little blue credits. Its disgusting. I don't know why I care so much, but I guess I just do.

I would go look up some other footage, but that video was SO BAD I don't even care about the how cool the dog was anymore. It is, quite literally, The. Worst. Video. I've. Ever. Seen. (And heard.)

Learn to use video editing software, people, it's not that fricken' hard... fading out music is probably one of the easiest things to do.

I have to go take an aspirin now.

Now I've remembered that I've blogged about him last year or so, really great dog - but this clip ruins everything and definitely doesn't achieve the goal.

I recommend to others to go and see original clips on youtube about this great dog and man partnership.

A second version of the video has been done. Skidboot has left us - A small tribute has different music track.
You can find it in the related list as well as in the skidboot playlist
