Strange Bugs of Thailand.

John Moore has a collection of over 3,000 photographs of Thai insects, taken mostly in their natural habitats in forest of Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Does anyone know what is this strange bug with a face on its back?

This specimen appears to be a variety of cockroach ('maengda' in Thai). It is immature, as his posterial armor has not yet fully grown to shield the rear of his body from being bitten or stung.

IMO, the only good cockroach in Thailand is a dead one.

I dissent, this doesn't look like a cockroach (of the Orthopteroid orders) but more like a true bug of the order Hemiptera.
One does not typically see the head of a cockroach from the dorsal view, as it is usually obscured by the pronotum. And cockroachs don't have hemelytra (the X on the back).

Sorry I can't get you any closer than "long-horned bug". suborder Gymnocerata.
