Wild wolves are typically evasive towards humans and can run away at speeds of up to 30 mph, but BBC Earth has released some tips on how you can befriend them. I wouldn’t say I’m suggesting anyone to approach One Eye the Wolf, but it is cute to see them lick BBC naturalist Steve Backshall.  Link -via Mother Jones

The skull shows a mixture of traits seen in dogs and wolves. The snout is similar in size to early domesticated dogs in Greenland from around 1,000 years ago, but its large teeth are closer to those found in 31,000-year-old European wolves.

Benny had severely underestimated our hunting and maiming capabilities.  We were not like ordinary little girls who frittered away their time hosting tea parties and pretending to be princesses.  We had spent countless hours out in the forest, sharpening our hunting tactics on imaginary prey and we finally had an opportunity to put all of our practice to use on a real thing that would run away from us and struggle for survival.  Unfortunately for Benny, we had not yet developed the ability to empathize with the pain and suffering of other people, and his terrified fleeing was pretty much the most fun thing that had ever happened to us.

Allegedly, this video was taken from security camera footage from a highway in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don. A police officer pulls over a motorist. As he talks to the driver, a pack of wolves or wild dogs attack him. The officer jumps into the backseat of the car to escape them.

Ulrock the rottweiler adopted this eight week old wolf cub and the pair is quickly becoming best friends. If you’ve ever wondered how well wolf cubs could get along with a domesticated dog, here’s your answer. They sleep together and even howl at the moon in unison. Little Beldaran the wolf was abandoned by his parents at only four days old.

Preserve director Heather Grierson, 49, said: ‘It’s a true love story that has touched the hearts of everyone who visits the preserve.

‘You just can’t be in a bad mood when these two are around. It’s impossible to look at them and not feel good.’

In November 2008, Russia Today TV-Channel’s camera captured the life of a group of orphaned wolves growing up in the forest, as part of a scientific project to determine how predator’s “genetic memory” works.
