In the newest NSFW trailer for the upcoming cheerleader zombie slayer video game Lollipop Chainsaw, we are introduced to the apple of the main character Juliet’s eye-the severed head of her boyfriend, Nick, which she carries around on her hip, and uses to overcome obstacles in some very interesting ways.

As if chopping off Nick’s head so he doesn’t become a zombie isn’t romantic enough, the couple remain very affectionate, discussing the possibility of having children someday, in-between bouts of dicing up the walking dead.

Awwwww, finally there’s a love story for those of us who think Twilight is total drek. Way to keep that chainsaw engine revving Juliet!

This Is Aperture is robots and laser beams, and some beautiful scenes from the video game Portal 2 cut together with a song sung to the tune of This Is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Aside from a few questionable word choices and forced rhymes, it’s cyber cute and definitely lives up to the sense of humor found in the Portal games.

This is a crazy cool remix of the Alien video game theme song, a game which was released on the Commodore 64, appropriately being played on a Commodore 64, laptop and some other musical doohickeys. Add Southern Comfort as inspiration and a creepy green goblin looking mask and you’ve got old school awesome sauce. Makes me wish I still had my C64!

If you’re tired of the zombie-less, cinematic cutscene instead of visceral gameplay direction that the Resident Evil video game series has been heading in over the years, then you’re in for a treat when the newest incarnation (#6) is released in spring 2012.

Taking the series back to it’s roots promises to be a horrifying experience, full of zombies, giant genetic monstrosities and hardcore combat. Personally, I blame the movies for the direction that the games have been going in since their release, and this trailer shows that the game designers aren’t content with letting their zombified series turn into schlocky Hollywood drivel without a bloody battle.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this one and start splitting some heads, even if that split head grows fangs and bites back!

Movies aren’t the only entertainment medium fond of ripping off ideas, video games have been ripping each other off from day one. The games on this list compiled by Dorkly are made up of familiar games with a slightly different look, proving that imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but it generally doesn’t help you sell your product.

From Super Mario Bros. to Street Fighter, to (relatively) newer games like Team Fortress and Grand Theft Auto, no popular game is safe from copycats, yet sometimes a rip-off game takes on a life of its own and makes it big. So, should we hate on imitators, or enjoy the way they lampoon the big names in the industry?

I think the Cold War may have kept this game from arriving in America, either that or the manufacturer didn’t feel like the reference to Mikhail Gorbachev would help sell copies in the U.S.

Whatever the reason, Gorby’s Pipeline never made its way to the Nintendo Entertainment System, and that’s too bad because it looks like it would have given Tetris and Dr. Mario a run for their money! Anyone remember the old school video game Pipe Dream?

The soundtrack music for the video game Skyrim is quite beautiful already, but when Jason Yang and his violin play the songs they become a thing of ethereal beauty.

We’ve been seeing a lot of this type of video game and orchestral/classical music crossover (Final Fantasy orchestra, Legend of Zelda orchestra, etc.), and I’m sure that game soundtracks will continue to inspire musicians of all kinds to perform their own interpretations of these songs.

It looks like Bill wasn’t lucky enough to survive a recent encounter with the undead in this Left 4 Dead fan film trailer from Airsoft GI and Northern Five Entertainment, based on the popular zombie apocalypse themed video game.

This trailer would make a great cut scene for Left 4 Dead gameplay after a member of the group dies. Man, i’d be bummed too if one of the four survivors in my group is now a buffet for the infected, and it’s probably my fault. The full length fan film is going to be released soon, and so far it looks like gloomy goodness.

Fans of the Mario Bros. video game franchise draw inspiration from the moustachioed plumbers in so many creative ways, but i’m generally most impressed by the musical tributes. This operatic styled song released on YouTube by legolambs has hilarious lyrics that go along with the gameplay so well that you’ll be entertained even though you’re watching someone play Super Mario Bros. for the millionth time.

Inspired by the Half Life video game series, and the sense of wonder experienced in the opening scene as Gordon Freeman pulls into Black Mesa station, this is one of those shorts that’s interesting to watch even if you’ve never played the games. Just think of it as a deleted scene from LOST, unless you are a die-hard Half Life fan, in which case you will find that statement to be offensive. Sorry about that.

Man, if this amazing little gaming device had been invented when I was a kid, I probably would have gone outside to play more often, although it would have surely been with this portable gaming console in hand. Called the HandyNES, it plays all the old Nintendo Entertainment System cartridges, and you can even use the light gun to play a tiny game of Duck Hunt.

Samus Aran has been bringing the girl power to video games since the premiere of Metroid on the original Nintendo Entertainment System, and although the series isn’t as prolific as, say, the Mario Bros. franchise, it nevertheless inspires a plethora of fan art.

But this life sized Samus fan art, made out of broken game cartridges from various gaming consoles, takes some serious dedication in terms of construction and the size of the display itself. And now this massive fan artwork is up for sale on Ebay, so you can bring it home and decide for yourself where the heck you’re going to display it!

This trailer from GhallyWood, or Ghana, Africa is off the hook crazy. The first feature, called Devil May Cry 1&2, was taken to be a film adaptation of the video game franchise, but seems more like an urban horror tale featuring a devil and some sweet sword fighting.

The second feature, called the Killer 1&2, seems to be about a bloodthirsty lion and a giant mallet flying around trying to bonk people in the head. There’s a lot of head bonking and people yelling, and some of the worst computer animation you’ve ever seen. But hey, at least they’re trying to make films of their own in Ghana, and they sure seem to have the imagination.

Pepsiman is a true hero, overcoming every urban obstacle thrown at him in order to quench the thirst of citizens in need!

This strange offering from Japan was released in 1999 for the Sony Playstation game console, and it’s faceless hero graced an advertising campaign in which Pepsiman saved people from death-by-thirst.

Richard Hofmeier saw the sign a little over a year ago when he first visited the restaurant, then located in the Orian brothers’ home in Eugene’s funky Whiteaker neighborhood. Hofmeier wondered if the Orians would be interested in anything he had or could make.

Hofmeier, 28, was constantly bringing projects back to his Eugene gallery, Ink Thirsty, and the cast of characters who worked or hung out there. They’d done video games before – if there’s a hulking lump under a drop cloth at Hofmeier’s place, that’s probably an arcade cabinet. This time he had a wild idea for the guys.

‘Let’s make a video game and see if we can get free waffles for life.’

Mario’s brother Luigi once had his day in the sun, thanks to a Nintendo Gamecube game called Luigi’s Mansion, in which Luigi wins a haunted mansion and must rescue Mario from his ghostly captors using a vacuum pack to bust the spooks. You know your city’s subway station is clean and vandal free when awesome works of art, like these 8 bit artworks made out of tile, cover the walls without fear of being defaced.

This subway station in Stockholm, Sweden is full of cool pixel art featuring Pac Man, Space Invaders, and other designs that show the Swedes appreciation of pixel art. This LEGO replica of a Lancer Rifle, the type carried by the characters in the very popular Gears Of War video game franchise, is so well designed that it functions as a rubber band gun, and has a clip so you can fire in burst mode. Good thing the chainsaw doesn’t work, or else someone would lose more than an eye!

UK's Kingston University design student Lee Wei Chen realized that the skills he developed playing a lot of video games are practically useless in real life, so he set out to do something about it.

Behold, the washing machine/arcade combo, where the likelihood of getting your clothes cleaned depends on your ability to play the game:

The machine looks like an arcade style video console – but the bottom half of the unit is a washing machine, with the components’ circuitry linked together. Therefore, the washing cycle is dependent on the success of the person playing the game, meaning that if they struggle, extra coins are needed to make sure the washing cycle is completed.

Chen’s course leader, Colin Holden, says, ‘He’s chosen two instantly recognisable objects – a washing machine and an arcade game – to illustrate this idea. Together the two objects produce a striking new electronic device. It’s an extremely well-executed design concept.’

Despite the genius behind the idea, it seems Chen is still far from becoming a domestic god, remaining blissfully unaware of the nuances of actually washing clothes.

‘I don’t even know how to choose the programme,’ he says.

This is a really nice performance of the main theme from the video game The Legend of Zelda on a marimba, plus snare drum, cymbals, bells, timpani, and triangle. These guys used no sheet music -it’s all played by ear! -via Buzzfeed

Reactions to this new bundle pack will range from “How much? No thanks…” to “Awesome!”, with lots of mehs in-between. The man calling himself the Eyeborg has put together a short documentary detailing modern bionics and cutting edge prosthetics, part of which was filmed using his eye camera.

Rob Spence lost his eye in a firearm accident a few years back, but the filmmaker refused to stop doing what he loved, so he had a prosthetic eye camera specially designed, and thus became the first person to have a implanted camera replace their eye.

Square Enix are Rob’s newest sponsors, and they have commissioned him to make a video that compares modern prosthetics and bionics to the bodily enhancements found in the new game Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Attention, Portal 2 fans! Gary Hudston commissioned a series of custom levels of the game.

The clever puzzles were put together by designers Doug “TopHATTWaffle” Hoogland and Rachel “Miss Stabby” van der Meer, who should probably be hired by Valve to work on Portal 3. And if you’re wondering how they did such an accurate GLaDOS impression, well, that’s Ellen McLain, the actual voice of GLaDOS.
