Bulldog Loves Skateboarding

In 2007, Tillman the bulldog amazed the world with his video of him riding a skateboard around a park, just as naturally as you please. Apparently the dog is still refining his moves, via Tony Hawk’s video game. (Obviously, he’s not playing the game, but he’s definitely into it.) The Kids In The Hall were probably most successful at pulling off the female disguise, although they weren’t trying to fool anyone. Their skits occasionally needed women characters, and their delivery was a perfect blend of self-awareness and application.

Many times in movies and other forms of entertainment, the contriving plot demands someone dress like a woman and fool other people, ostensibly people who aren’t blind. OMG Lists compiled ten of the worst offenders, from White Chicks to Bosom Buddies. It’s a pretty accurate list, despite my affection for Tootsie.

Katamari Damacy Wedding

When Aidra Frazier and Ernest Leitch of Buhl, Idaho got married on July 4th, they wanted a theme for the wedding. Independence Day wouldn’t do, so they went with the video game Katamari Damacy. Link

Teen Attacked Mom with Taco over Xbox

While the jury’s still out on whether playing video games lead to violence, one thing is clear: some people deserve to have their video games taken away from them. Here’s the story of one 19-year-old teen who attacked his mom with a taco when she unplugged his Xbox:

Dena Moir, 54, told deputy sheriffs she called her 19-year-old son Zachary several times to come downstairs for dinner Tuesday. When he didn’t respond, she went upstairs and unplugged his Xbox. She told deputies her son pushed her, called her names and ordered her out of his room.

The woman said she was cleaning the kitchen when her son came down to eat and that she pushed him to the side because he was in her way. At that point, deputies said, the man smacked his mother on the left arm, called her more offensive names and threw his taco in her face.

"I don’t think he believed I’ll call," the woman told a 911 dispatcher when she called the Sheriff’s Office. "He’s done this plenty of times before and I’ve never called."

Japanese cat Tetris iPhone game

I can’t decide whether or not this iPhone game is wonderful or terribly annoying. I *still* love Tetris and I love seeing games that build upon the original Tetris idea. I love to see the iPhone’s accelerometer being used in new applications. At the same time, however, having to listen to somebody else playing the game with its cacophony of cat-noises in a confined space seems like it might be tortuous. Has anyone played this? Any iPhone owners plan on buying the game now that you’ve seen the video? [YouTube]

Why Men Like to Play Video Games More Than Women

Why do more men than women like to play (violent) video games? Professor Allan Reiss of Stanford University found out that it’s all about their urge to conquer and vanquish:

In the study, published recently in the Journal of Psychiatric Research, scientists wired up a series of men and women to an MRI scanner while they played a video game, which involved competing to win on-screen territory by clicking on a series of balls.

After analysing the MRI data, the researchers found participants showed activation in the brain’s mesocorticolimbic centre, the region typically associated with reward and addiction.

Male brains, however, showed much greater activation, and the amount increased as they gained more territory. This was not the case with women.

Lendorff Kaywa, a collaboration between London’s knitware designer Office Lendorff and a mobile phone service company Kaywa, is offering a Space Invader QR-code scarf.

The scarf has a secret message encoded in a 2 dimensional barcode that can be decoded with a cell phone with a QR-code scanner.
