French photographer Cedric Delsaux sees a different setting for the Star Wars saga when he looks through the lens-a post-apocalyptic wasteland full of ruined buildings and bleak landscapes.

It’s the kind of place that seems perfect for devotees of the Dark Side, a world which leaves most droids feeling a bit lost. Here’s a bit on how this photo series came to be:

In his series ‘The Dark Lens’, Delsaux first set out to highlight the decay of the post-apocalyptic modern world, but found the landscapes too plain.

That was when he incorporated notable scenes and characters from Star Wars, with the help of CGI maestro Pierrick Gueneugue, bringing to life two distant worlds.

We’ve featured the works of Cedric Delsaux here on Neatorama  over the years (Link and Link), and now he’s back because his series The Dark Lens has been put together in a book, which features a forward by George Lucas (link).

What an interesting way to put a spin on a sub-genre and sci-fi series which are in danger of becoming an artistic cliche. And I quite like the idea of Darth Vader lording over the reconstruction of a massive skyscraper (Death Star Towers, maybe?), while Jabba the Hut is holed up in some rat infested slums, conducting his dirty business from the shadows.

Scientists have known what is contained in the Earth’s core for about 75 years now, but that hasn’t stopped sci-fi authors and artists from doing some wild speculation of their own.

These images by Japanese sci-fi illustrators are really far out, and I’m sure you’ll agree that the Earth’s core would make the awesomest setting ever for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign, or a great video game premise-Astronauts Vs. The Earths Core.

Just don’t go looking for science, because these sci-fi illustrations are mostly fiction.

Here’s a moldy old slice of cheese for your entertainment, courtesy of the 1987 sci-fi kids TV show Captain Power. Watch as the Narrator explains humanity’s predicament via reggae-styled rap, all while the heroes battle to keep humans from being turned into machines.

This video is the perfect example of why rapping should be left to the professionals, unless of course you need to quickly come up with a theme song in order to rally the troops against an android invasion.

TV sure has come a long way since the 80s, but have rappers learned from Captain Power’s mistakes?

I’m inspired by television and movies from my childhood. It’s funny how you watch some of those things today and wonder why you were so obsessed with them at the time. I remember the Fonz being SO much cooler than he actually was. My paintings are basically just placards screaming ‘Childhood! It was amazing! I want it forever, please!’ I paint mainly in my pajamas, watching the Muppet Show and eating cereal. I’d like to think it shows.

Since Easter is at our doorstep, why not use the occasion to "geek out" and paint your favorite sci-fi characters on egg shells?

I considered Firefly, Star Wars, and potentially even Deadwood. But then I settled on some of the cast of Battlestar Galactica for a few reasons, but mostly because of the show’s themes of death, resurrection, and rebirth. I mean, that’s what Spring is about, right? We can at least agree on that.

Check out this award winning short film (it’s only 3 minutes long). It’s a nice shoutout to the gothic horror films of the 20s and 30s. Simple but effective.

Plot Synopsis:

A leasing agent prepares an apartment with a mysterious past for an
afternoon viewing. While awaiting the arrival of the prospective client
the leasing agent learns that she’s not alone in the apartment.

Poking around Fangoria‘s site I stumbled upon something seemingly out of the ordinary – a short film review of an unknown film by an unknown filmmaker.

The short called "The Night Shift" is an adventure/comedy/horror/sci-fi film about a cemetery night watchman whose nightly job is to keep the cemetery’s residents from escaping. Citing Fangoria’s positive review I gave the 23 minute film a view and thought it was fantastic. It’s truly a unique and out of the ordinary concept that makes for a very entertaining film. I hope everyone can set aside 23 minutes and give this wonderful film a chance. You won’t regret it.

Meanwhile, I checked out the filmmaker’s website (www.fightingowlfilms.com) and learned they’re a Mobile, Alabama (where?) based low-budget filmmaking group aspiring to make a feature film. I wish them the best of luck and with a film like "The Night Shift" on their resume I look forward to their future endeavors.
