So. Unless you’ve been living in a cave, I’m sure you’ve heard that President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize (surprise!)

The blogosphere was immediately abuzz with … confusion. What has Obama done to deserve to win? Isn’t it a bit premature? Are Norwegians just Obamafans? And does this mean that the Olympics is ditching Rio to come to Chicago? You’d expect this kind of reaction from his political opponents, but it seems that *everyone* was scratching their heads.

I know, I know – no politics on Neatorama. But I’m genuinely puzzled. What do you guys think is going on?

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

And yes, I made that Super Obamario Bros. photoshop

Designed by a team at the National University of Singapore, PhotoSketch is the latest and greatest in image creation systems. The full description of how it works can be found here, but the basic process is this:

Draw a basic object, name it and repeat this for any other objects you want in your picture, then name the background. PhotoSketch then searches the Internet for images that match the descriptions given, and after a bit of sorting out, you have all the elements necessary for seamless stitching. The possibilities seem endless. Check out the video!

Photo: Law Offices of Nick Pacheco

Gang member Richard Rodriguez fled on foot after a car chase, surrendered
and subsequently got himself kicked in the head by an El Monte police
        officer (Don't remember this? LAist
blog has the video clip). And now, he's suing for $5 million.

To better his chances in court, Richard's lawyer Nick Pacheco will perform
        what we'll call a "Gangbanger's Extreme Makeover":

... the attorney said his heavily tattooed client will be getting
an extreme makeover in time for a trial, complete with a thick Tom Selleck
mustache -- think "Magnum P.I." -- to cover the name of his
street gang, which is inked on his upper lip. Richard Rodriguez will
also grow hair to cover the tattoos on his shaved head. And he'll wear
          a nice, conservative suit. [...]

In the booking photo, Rodriguez's head is shaved, and the name
of his gang hangs over his lip. Tattoos climb his neck. In the "after"
rendition, he's wearing a black suit with a metallic gray tie, neatly
combed hair and a lush mustache.

"People get past looks when you put on a suit and your hair
          is grown," Pacheco said.

Toronto’s motto is "Diversity Our Strength" which makes it kinda awkward for the City to be busted for this exercise in forced diversity: they photoshopped in (badly) a token black guy for the cover of their Spring & Summer 2009 Fun Guide!

Allison Hanes of National Post has the story:

The smiling, ethnically diverse family featured on the cover of Toronto’s latest edition of its summer Fun Guide was digitally altered to make the photo more "inclusive," which city officials say is in keeping with a policy to reflect diversity.

A spokesman for the department that publishes the guide listing recreation activities confirmed the publication was doctored to insert the face of a different father.

"He superimposed the African-Canadian person onto the family cluster in the original photo. It was two photographs and one head was superimposed over the original family photo," said John Gosgnach, communications director for the social development division.

"The goal was to depict the diversity of Toronto and its residents."

The cover shot caught the eye of a National Post graphics editor, who ran it through a program called TinEye that detects visual enhancements to standard art.

To add insult to injury, none of the people are actually Toronto residents: Link – via Torontoist

I am horribly, terribly scared of clowns (and people dressed up in costumes or masks that obscure their faces, for that matter), but even I find this contest on Worth 1000 interesting.
The one here is by Worth1000 submitter SassyDeb, and in case the grease paint threw you, it’s Hugh Laurie from House.
