This dangerous, yet beautifully mesmerizing, little device is called the Pyro Board-a table top full of flammable gas that makes flame patterns in a reaction to soundwaves that are directed at the board via loudspeaker.

The video is excruciating to listen to, but the concept is deadly cool. What a delightful way to burn down your house!

I know the latest trend in audio is to put speakers into clothing wherever possible, but this backpack speaker unit, complete with 8-inch woofer, seems like overkill. For one thing, it can’t be good for the ears of whoever wears the thing. Then there’s the fact that no one will want to be anywhere near you when this thing kicks off.

But if you need to have your theme music with you at all times, say while running from the cops or rappelling off a building, then this booming bag has got your back.

If you ever wanted finer control over your Etch-A-Sketch lines, then you may want to consider splicing in a NES controller! Here’s the process as described by Alpinedelta32, the creator of this brilliant mod:

I connected the etch-a-sketch knobs to stepper motors, which are then controlled by an Arduino microcontroller. The Arduino program I wrote takes signals from the NES controller and sends them as stepper motor control instructions.

Low tech toys meets high tech mod, this is what geeks do with their toys when they grow up!

The View-Master, a classic American toy since 1939, uses stereoscopy to present 3D images. Hacker Consortium user tuttle thought that he could do the same thing with modern technology, and so replaced the internal components of one with tiny digital screens:

Long gone are the days of light shining through celluloid images on a disk… Long gone! Why this little feller here has Two, count them, 2 Colby 1.5 inch digital key chain picture frames lined up with each lens to create a digital stereoscope. Wait there’s more don’t go. What more you ask? Well this little device actually comes pretty damn close to doing stereoscope really well. It even surprised me!

Neatorama reader DHRECK wrote to us about his latest art creation: a fully functional Wii-mote/nunchuck completely covered with hemp strings!

Made from 3 kinds of 100% natural hemp string on the outside, while remaining 100% functional on the inside.

In stark contrast with the original Wii-mote set, what was once sleek, cold, white and hard plastic has now become a slightly fuzzy, natural, warm and textured concoction. No more bland, branded and boring
but mottled, flawfull, rough and a tad sweat absorbing.

The Hemp-Mote is absolutely playable, all buttons, accelerometers and the infrared camera accounted for. Unfortunately its exterior is also quite fragile and prone to degeneration, being in the raw state that it is.

So he spent two months modding a store-bought costume to include:

* Repulsor Air – Blows air with CO2 air pump on hip and hose back to his hand.
* Repulsor Missile – Using CO2 air pump can also launch a paper missile.
* Repulsor Sensor/Light – A magnetic switch sensor lights his repulsor hand light and fades out and in his glowing eyes. Arduino handles this effect.
* Arc Reactor – A LED night light from Costco embedded in his chest. [...]
