Vandal Caught Due to Consistent Misspelling

A man in Vermont is accused of vandalizing his ex-girlfriend’s car. He would have gotten away with carving the word “slut” into her car, except that he misspelled it as “sult”. The woman identified him as the likely perpetrator, so the police called the man into their station to question him:

Police called Hall into the station and issued him a citation. Hall denied any involvement with the vandalism, but when asked to write the sentence “You are a slut,” on a piece of paper, Hall wrote “You are a sult,” instead. The misspelling matched that of the vandalism.

Stay in school, kids, and pay attention in English class. It pays off in the long run.

Embarrassing Billboard Typo

A billboard bragging about the schools in South Bend, Indiana was erected without anyone noticing a certain misspelled word, until Lee MacMillan took a picture and posted it on Facebook.

Responsibility for the spelling error has been claimed by the Blue Waters Group. The company does work for the city of South Bend’s redevelopment commission to promote the city.

“I feel terrible. It’s a mistake we made and we’re guilty of it, and responsible for it. and we take full responsibility for the error,” said Patrick Strickler, president of the Blue Waters Group.

“Four people looked at it, eyeballed it and didn’t see the mistake, and those people all work for me,” Strickler explained. “We take responsibility for it. We simply blew it. We did not see the missing “L.”

Education Cakes

Cake Wrecks has a roundup of tragic cakes specifically for school events: back to school, the last day of school, graduation, teacher training, or in the case of the cake pictured, a special lesson in history (I think). Did I spell all those words right? I wouldn’t want these cakes to rub off on me! Link

Misspelled Highway Sign

A sign on Highway 51 in Wisconsin points to exit 185. There are four words on the sign, and three are misspelled. “Exit” was correctly spelled.

David Vieth, director of the bureau of highway operations for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, said the mistake was made by Decker Supply Company of Madison, which printed the sign.

The sign for exit 185 on southbound Highway 51 reads “Buisness 51 Rothschield Schofeild.”

Inconceivable! How Could Anyone Misspell That?

We’ve had our share of typsos here on Neatorama, so we understand how misspellings can happen even to the best of us. But misspelling the name of this lake in Webster, Massachusetts? Why, it’s inconceivable how anyone couldn’t spell it correctly:

In an embarrassing mistake, officials in Massachusetts have been forced to admit that some road signs pointing to Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg have spelling mistakes in them.

The typos, which are completely baffling considering how easy it is to spell Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg, were revealed by a local newspaper, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, which has been covering the misspelling scandal since 2003.
