You might think you’ve seen enough computerized Christmas lights by now… and I wouldn’t blame you. But this is an actual game. Angry Birds, to be precise. Former Disney Imagineer Ric Turner turned his house into the game with 20,000 lights, an FM audio channel, and controller that people can use to play from their cars! -via The Daily What

It’s one thing to have a few nice decorations for your house at Christmas, but it’s another thing to try to give Clark Griswold a run for his money. While this post is labeled as “Cool Christmas Lights,” a lot of them are more tacky than cool.

Jason Hull finds vintage flash cameras at garage sales and flea markets and converts them into night lights! He removes parts that don’t show in order to make them lightweight and then adds a plug-in and different types of lights. Hull is considering opening an Etsy shop when he has enough lights made. This house better stock up on Halloween candy, because they’re guaranteed to have a flood of trick or treaters this year! The brilliant light show changes with the music, and animated pumpkin faces sing along. I wonder what these people are going to do to their house for Christmas?

I’ve never bothered carving mini pumpkins because the process seems so unrewarding compared to carving a regular pumpkin. That being said, I might just change my mind after seeing these adorable string lights created by Evil Mad Scientist Labs.

What you see here is a chandelier made of wide-mouth Mason canning jars! Laura and David handcraft these one at a time to the customer’s specifications. Not only is it a conversation piece full of Southern charm, but they are energy-efficient, too! Link

Artists Benedetto Bufalino and Benedict Deseille installed these lights as part of the Festival of Trees and Lights in Geneva, Switzerland. Seeing these would surely “brighten up” the evening commute! Link -via The Daily What

The folks at Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories will put an LED into anything, but this is quite lovely. The dried shells of sea urchins are already beautiful, and can be made into tiny lights that resemble paper lanterns for night lights or decorations. Link

Did you know Niagara Falls is lit up at night? They have been lighting up Niagara Falls dating back to 1860 when Bengal Lights were used to celebrate a visit by the Prince of Wales. Since 1925 the falls have been lit almost every night except for during WW II when the falls could have been a target to knock out the hydro power. They light Niagara Falls at night to attract and keep visitors overnight to fill up all the hotel rooms where people can view the lit falls right from their rooms until midnight. The effect of the lights is quite spectacular.

The night of the full moon in November is known as Loy Krathong Day in Thailand.

Loy is “to float” and Krathong is a “leaf cup” usually made of banana leaf as one often sees in the market. The leaf cup is used to hold something. Loy Krathong is, therefore, the floating of lights in a leaf cup. During October and November, all the rivers and canals in the lowlands are flooded and the waters in some places overflow their banks. The rainy season is now in a sense over. It is the time of rejoicing for the weather is fair after the rains.

In this video, 100,000 illuminated rafts fill the Mae Klong River. Link
