Fiat Lux is a lamp with a switch that hovers underneath -no strings attached! The ball-shaped switch is magnetic, and rests on the lamp when not in use. When you approach the lamp, it turns itself on. Then you “hang” the switch underneath, where it levitates by magnetic force. Move the switch to turn the lamp off. Designer Marcus Tremonto created a lamp made out of carbon fiber. He selected this material for the Carbon 451 Lamp because it is strong enough to support its own weight but thin enough to present the aesthetic qualities Tremonto wanted:

When asked by art gallery owner Patrick Brillet to design a piece out of Carbon Fiber, we decided to celebrate and utilize the best of the materials true physical properties, its strength and lightness. The complexity of curves and required thinness could not be duplicated in any other material while still maintaining its ability to support itself completely[...]

No, that’s not a really tiny woman. Rather, it’s a gigantic lamp shaped like a regular ol’ table lamp. Designer Alex Bergman created this Edison the Grand lamp for Fatboy studio. The large size of the lamp (it stands about 3 feet) is accompanied by the large sticker price: more than $900!

Designed by Yoon-Hui Kim and Eun-Kyung Kim, the Solar Vertical Lamp takes a typical vertical blind and outfits it with special mini photovoltaic and LED pixels to create a new form of interior lighting.

By day the mini solar cells absorb energy from sunlight. However, at night "artfully placed lighting pixels (similar to those used on billboards) illuminate" to create a sustainable lighting system.

Moonlights are wonderful glowing orbs (or half-orbs) that give off a gentle glow of light, just like its namesake. They are made from polyethylene spheres 13 to 30 inches (33 to about 75 cm) in diameter and can be used indoors and outdoors (or even floating in a pool).
