Consider diversifying your investment portfolio with one. After seventy years, you can sell it at a high price:

Elite Estate Group sold the cake in an auction on its website. Company owner Larry Chaney says the man, who wanted to remain anonymous, probably bought the cake as an investment. [...]

The cake was made in 1941 by The Kroger Co. It was returned unopened to a Kroger store in 1971. The manager took it home and kept it until recently when his son was helping him get rid of some things and gave the cake to Chaney.

Competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi {wiki} has won awards for eating hot dogs, hamburgers, dumplings, bratwurst, lobster rolls, cow brains, and rice balls. But he completely gave up on the world record at a fruitcake eating competition!

With only a 1/2 pound to go at 8 minutes, Kobayashi began crumbling the nutty cake before jamming it into his mouth, a technique that seemed effective.

“Koby! Koby! Koby!” the crowd of about two dozen shouted, as his pace quickened.

By 8 minutes and 35 seconds, Sonya Thomas’ 2001 record was still almost a pound out of his reach. In the end, Kobayashi managed to eat 4 pounds and 8 ounces.

“It was very difficult to eat because it was so dense,” Kobayashi said through a translator, admitting that he had never eaten the cake before.

The fruitcake record remains at 4 pounds 14 ounces, eaten in ten minutes. The event held Friday raised funds for a food bank in New York City. Link -via Unique Daily

I’ve never actually had fruitcake, so I can’t really knock it. I can tell you it looks gross, but that’s about it. But I hear lots of people dislike it intensely, especially when received as a gift. This one might not irritate your friends and family any less, but at the very least it should get points for creativity. It comes with its own envelope, so you can mail it right to the lucky recipient. I actually might send one to my grandma… she loves quirky stuff like this.
