OkTrends has an intriguing post about sex compiled from the data from the bazillion interaction data of members of the OkCupid dating site (you can read all 10 interesting statistics), but this one is particularly intriguing: active Twitter users have shorter relationships.

People who use Twitter every day tend to have shorter relationships, and the problem gets worse as a person gets older, according to its analysis of 833,987 OkCupid users. The average relationship for an 18-year-old who uses Twitter is about nine months, while “everybody else” usually has a relationship average of nine-and-a-half months. At age 50, the frequent tweeter has a 15 month-long relationship, while the non-frequent Twitter user stays in a relationship for an average of almost 17 months.

Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando hosted three days of speed dating sessions for conventioneers, the first ever speed dating event just for Star Wars fans.

The ages of the speed-dating participants at Celebration V ranged from 18 to 54, but most appeared to be in their mid-20s. The women were, by and large, attractive; most wore street clothes. Of the men, no more than three were openly carrying lightsabers, and in general, they looked less like Jabba the Hutt and more like Luke Skywalker than might have been expected.

“The women who show up are looking for someone to make a connection with,” Glitch explained. “Most of the guys are just like, ‘I get to talk to a girl! Fabulous!’ “

Some attendee really hit it off, and made trips to the Star Wars Commitment Chapel, conveniently provided by the convention planners. Link -via Fark

As their tagline says, "Experts answer what they know. The Non-Expert answers anything." So, when a The Morning News reader asked whether it’s okay to date a relative, Erik Bryan and Jennifer Daniel created a flowchart to help answer the question that’s on everyone’s mind at one point in time or another: can we date?

Degree of relation determines the acceptability of relationships. Like, even if you’re not related by blood to someone, there are, as I reckon, about three levels of relations that should be considered when deciding who you can date: “personal,” “professional,” and “other.” Of course a lot of that “other” is going to be concerned with instances, like, say you’re at a kegger and you meet a Japanese foreign exchange student and you’re both really drunk. Obviously you wouldn’t need our advice to know that there’s practically a frat’s-worth of third base coaches waving you in. The following flowchart, then, is intended specifically for cases like your own, where the higher degrees of relation come into play and the other cases are more problematic. Commence flowchart!

This completely hilarious montage of circa 1987 video dater men was featured on Boing Boing yesterday, and as one commenter mentioned, the guy at 3:34 was a dead ringer for Seth Green. Upon second viewing, I noticed that the guy at 2:27 looks and sounds like Seth Rogen.

That got me thinking. Is the Seth Green guy really Seth Green, filmed recently? Slipped into a montage of real 87 vid-daters? And if that is Seth Rogen, is it also current footage with makeup, because if it was really him he’d be about 5 years old in 1987. It seems odd that two Seths appear in one seemingly random new (old) funny video.

Anyway, aside from that, there’s lots of funny to be found in this new viral gem. Hard to pick a favorite, but the Goddess guy/ Bon Jovi afficionado is impressive.

Migros, a supermarket chain in Switzerland, got a brilliant idea for its underwear advertising campaign: they are modeled by good lookin’ singles who you can contact!

In a wide-spread press release Migros announced to advertise their latest underwear worn by real singles, who are looking to meet and find a partner. The story quickly became a topic for the media, already giving the campaign a first ignition. 700 willing models applied and there from 26 where chosen. Following was a campaign that used real life singles modelling the underwear with possibility of the viewer to contact them over their email address. Hundreds of national and international media covered the story about the singles in Migros underwear.

Fourth grader Alec Greven wrote a pamphlet called “How to Talk to Girls” which became a best seller at his school book fair in Castle Rock, Colorado. The 46-page book has now been picked up by publisher Harper Collins. Some tidbits:

“It is easy to spot pretty girls because they have big earrings, fancy dresses and all the jewelry,” he writes in Chapter Three.

“Pretty girls are like cars that need a lot of oil.”

He advises, “The best choice for most boys is a regular girl. Remember, some pretty girls are coldhearted when it comes to boys. Don’t let them get to you.”

He believes the best way to approach a girl is to keep it to a simple “hi.”

“If I say hi and you say hi back, we’re probably off to a good start,” he said.

As for his own love life, he said he is not dating anyone at the moment. “I’m a little too young,” he confessed.
