The Russian mob is powerless against the magic experienced while eating in Burger King restaurants, at least according to this wacky Russian commercial. It’s like clubbing and a magic show, all while chowing down on tasty burgers!

Pepsiman is a true hero, overcoming every urban obstacle thrown at him in order to quench the thirst of citizens in need!

This strange offering from Japan was released in 1999 for the Sony Playstation game console, and it’s faceless hero graced an advertising campaign in which Pepsiman saved people from death-by-thirst.

This commercial parody from Saturday Night Live in the early 1990s paved the way for future kittie videos to take the interwebs by storm, and it’s an ad for a  fake product I’d actually like to see sold in stores, especially around Halloween. It doesn’t get much better than armor clad cats battling it out with mini rocket launchers, oh wait, they glow in the dark?!

In making what Bon Yurt calls “the best afterparty imaginable,” this ad for the company’s yogurt shows a team of artists going BlendTec on several thousand glowsticks before pumping them into 700 glasses through about 200 meters of plastic tubing to make a neon equalizer display. I don’t know what this has to do with yogurt, but it looks like awesome fun times.

… a local YMCA had the advertisement they wanted.  In order to promote healthier living (and the use of YMCA athletic facilities), they filmed a young woman consuming a stick of butter while watching television, to the accompaniment of Patsy Kline’s “You Made Me Love You.”

Edwards was allowed to spit the butter in her mouth into a plastic bucket between takes and was fed bottles of Coke to wash away the aftertaste. But by the end of the day she estimates she ingested the equivalent of two butter sticks.

The advertisement, produced for a total of less than $5,000 has won a national award in the “low budget” category of the Association of Independent Commercial Producers.

Computer technology has certainly come a long way in only a few decades and though we may like to complain about failed OSes and hardware, looking back at some of these often hilarious computer commercials from the 1970’s and 80’s really goes to show how far we’ve come. Pictured is the IBM 5100 Portable Computer, which had a 16-bit processor and 64K of memory. It only weighted about 50 pounds and would set you back around $10,000.

In this clever and engaging video, the warmth of natural gas heat is visualized through the use of stop-motion animation of knitted wool.   The Belgian group that executed this commercial also offers a companion piece documenting how it was created; the most impressive aspect is that the knitting is real – not computer graphics.

This awesome commercial re-imagines MS Office as an action/thriller film. In this two-minute trailer, the partner of the slain agent Clippy swears to bring his killer to justice. It was directed by Dennis Liu working under Traffik Advertising.

Space travel seems almost out of vogue these days, compared with its heyday in the latter half of last century. However, Richard Branson and Burt Rutan may be about to change all that by launching commercial space travel.

This may sound like a fantasy, but the world’s first commerical spacecraft was revealed by them yesterday – the SpaceShipTwo, and test flights are set to start immediately.

Branson and Rutan will be the first into space with their families, and there is already a huge list of reservations for the twice-daily flights to take place after this. The plane carries just six passengers at a time, each of whom pays £200,000 for just a few minutes of flight.

So as it stands, this is nothing more than a distant dream for all but the super-rich. However, it is certainly the start of something that could be absolutely huge.

North Korea is world-renowned for its crippling poverty, saber rattling and wanton firing of missiles left, right and center. It is also known for its strict TV practices where all televisions are made to tune only to state run stations and programs. As a staunchly communist nation commercialism is very rare or non-existent. So you could imagine that it was a bit of surprise for both North Korean viewers and for many groups who keep an eye on what is happening in that country to see a rare site sight…an advert for beer!

I would love to have a translation of what the advert claims as the advert itself is just trippy and I suppose that the claims regarding the beers “stress reducing” abilities are too.
