Apparently men wearing spandex on television wasn’t looked upon very kindly during the 1960′s, and whisper campaigns plotted to take shows like Batman off the air due to an overwhelming fear of homosexuality, implied or otherwise.

An article from TV Radio Album, circa 1967, suggests that Adam West and Burt Ward might have been more than just friends, which was meant to turn public sentiment against them, then the article proceeds to show the dynamic duo doing karate and surfing like total studs. Read on, faithful viewer!

It would have been great if the game Prince of Persia had come out for the Commodore 64 in 1989 when I actually owned and used a C64, but sadly we had to endure the greatness of this classic game rubbed in our faces by our friends with Apple II computers.

However, hope is not lost, as the tireless efforts of retro gaming enthusiasts have finally paid off- Prince of Persia has been ported to the C64! So dust off your emulator and take this bad boy for a spin, or check out the video and pretend you played it through oh so many years ago.

Laura Bifano’s 8-Bit Animal Kingdom

These paintings by Laura Bifano depict animals as a bunch of squares, but this ain’t your grandma’s Cubism. This is 8-bit Cubist artworks for the video game generation, with cubic animals that look like they’ve leaped off the tv screen and into their “natural” habitats, and are having trouble fitting in with the classical art world.

There are plenty more cool paintings at the artist’s site below, take a gander and you’ll see a whole wide world of cubic critters trying to act natural.

“Vans and the places where they were” is a project by filmmaker/photographer Joe Stevens that artfully presents… a bunch of vans. Each photo frames the subject identically, yet the vans and the locales are various, shot over the course of 13 years and counting.

Vans and the places where they were documents surviving custom and conversion vans across the West and examines the dialogue which exists between a van’s design aesthetic and that of its surrounding environment. The project began in 1996 and currently consists of hundreds of images shot on 120mm film.

What is it about Alameda, California, that attracts vintage (read: sometimes just old) cars? Is it the mild weather … or something else entirely?

Jalopnik has a neat feature called Down on the Street, which features snapshots of cars parked on the street. The Alameda series has more than 400 vintage cars and trucks:

Why does such a small city have so many old cars parked on the street?

Good question, and one to which I have no authoritative answer. I have some theories, which are:

* The Island That Time Forgot: Alameda is a weird place, and I mean that in the best possible way. It’s essentially a David Lynch movie set in a sunny California climate, among Victorian and Craftsman architecture and a small-town mentality that belies its urban grid street pattern and very high population density. The island is full of old people who never cross a bridge, whose original-owner classics never drive faster than 25 and are used only for short trips to Ole’s Waffles or Lee Auto Supply. It’s also full of young people who start to feel that an old car just, you know, make the most sense. You never know what this town will do to you; Jim Morrison arrived on the island as a wholesome Navy kid, and by the time he departed for LA he’d become a dopefiend weirdo poet.

After almost 19 years of the classic Simpsons introduction scene today the brand new HDTV intro with brand new drawings and animation is being heralded across the interwebs. Being a life long fan of The Simpsons TV show this really is quite a breath of fresh air to the tired yet famous intro scene. So far since this post there have been up 521,439 views alone on YouTube since February 13th.
