Developers of the upcoming game Age of Wulan thought that auctioning off exclusive items for their new MMORPG would be a good way to help promote it. Something tells me they weren’t expecting someone to throw down an amazing $16,000 on a virtual sword.

This Leica O-series is just one of 25 ever made to “test the market” in 1923, two years before the camera’s A-Series debuted, according to the auctioneer’s description. That was enough to make the winning bidder pay $1,890,000 for it just last weekend, making it the most expensive camera ever sold.

They took it to the local auctioneer Bainbridges, in nearby Ruislip, who were in turn excited by the find and valued it at between £800,000 and £1.2m.

However, no one expected the reaction from Chinese buyers, who pushed the bidding up over 30 frenzied minutes to a world record £43m.

By the end of the auction, the price was increasing in £1m chunks as the final few bidders – understood to be mainland Chinese businessmen – vied for the vase.

The final selling price was about $85 million.

The most talked about item, Elvis famed white piano, failed to sell Saturday night. It had a starting price of half a million dollars and was valued at up to a million dollars. Auction organizers say they think the economy kept people from bidding.

When it was all over, the Elvis gear up for auction brought-in more than $650,000. Someone bought a jar of Elvis’ hair for nearly $17,000.

Bonhams auction house in New York is held a unique auction on Thursday. On the block? Authentic dinosaur fossils and other artifacts from the ice age.

Among the things sold were skeletons, teeth, skulls, plants, and petrified trees. Most of the items were expected to go to museums, but private collectors also attended the auction.

Up for grabs are a Woolly Rhinoceros skeleton, a Tyrannosaurus Rex tooth — and a stegodon skull. But don’t be tempted to go for the impulse buy — these items don’t come cheap, with experts warning a buyer could expect to pay anything up to and even over $200,000.
