Driving Lessons with Mom and Dad

(YouTube link)

Kieran is trying to learn how to drive. A stick shift. Anyone who has ever tried to teach driving to a novice can relate to the terror in his parents' eyes. Then imagine the difficulty of having to drive on the wrong side of the road, as they do in Australia. It's very stressful. I taught my kids to drive on an automatic, then they came back years later and wanted me to teach them to drive my clutch Camry. I gave them the keys and told them to go do it on their own, since they have licenses now. -via Digg

I will never forget my oldest headed down hill on our street, and not even slowing before coming to a blind intersection. When I yelled at her to stop, she calmly told me there was no stop sign there.

The real secret to teaching a kid to drive is to start out in a safe place. We went from pasture to parking lot to cemetery to quiet neighborhood to downtown to highway. They had driven a lot before they actually had contact with traffic, so it was fairly smooth compared to other techniques I've seen.

Baby Sleep Sacks -- in the early 80's my mom bought the proto-proto-type of the Snuggie/Slanket/Forever Lazy. It looked like a sleeping bag, but it snapped up the front. You got in, and the top inside corners could fold down over your shoulders and snap at the center front, creating two sleeves. Or, you could unsnap it all the way and use it like a regular blanket. Awesome!

I love the "back door."

I used to have something similar to this about 10 years ago but it was just called a "sac" or something. Mostly wore it in the winter or when I was sick, it was warm but I wouldn't ever leave the house

Where do people get off wearing something warm and comfortable in the privacy of their own homes? They should always dress as if some anonymous web surfer is watching and judging them.
