It's not yet safe to play real life Grand Theft Auto, but Volvo's V40 comes with a feature that may reduce pedestrian fatalities during accidents. When a pedestrian impacts the front, an airbag deploys out of hood to partially shield that person from the rest of the car. Do you think that it will work?

Looks like just another expensive item that has to be replaced in a crash.

Looks good, but it works on the assumption that the driver is going to stop. What if the driver wants to carry on?

The pedestrian has already lost his knees and hips. When he sails over the car he will land on his head. All this does is protect the windshield. The airbag will cost more to replace than the windshield.
