Destruction Caused By The East Coast Earthquake

The East Coast  is still recovering from a less-than-devastating earthquake that shook walls, knocked stuff over on desks and generally didn't do a whole lot of damage. The folks over at BuzzFeed have gathered together a gallery of images that shows just how simple it will be for the folks on the East Coast to recover from the kind of tremor that Californians feel on a weekly basis. Damage caused by an earthquake has never been so hilarious!

It isn't ALL inconsequential. (Though most of it is less than impressive.)

Not all of the damage from Earthquake was something as simple as a fallen picture, etc. There were buildings that had walls fall. And I think the biggest thing the people in California need to realize about the reaction of the people on the East coast is this..The east coast is one solid plate. It isn't like CA where they are on faults, etc and when they have an earthquake it's centralized. East Coast quakes travel the entire plate. And since people over here don't get earthquakes much the NY reaction is pretty understandable. For all they knew, there was another terrorist attack

Good comment, Draevan. I tend to think that most people here are a little more concerned about Irene right now (at least where I live..about 1 1/2 hour from the epicenter of the earthquake).

I live a few minutes from the epicenter in central VA, and it scared the bejeepers out of me. I have lived in VA for almost 60 years, and never felt a real earthquake before. How was I to know it was "only" 5.9 when it was happening? The intensity increased for about 30 seconds and then stopped dead.

Sneer on, Californians. I wish LA could get a 18-inch snowstorm. I'm sure they would take that in stride.

Having grown up in Southern California, I thought the (over) reaction to yesterday's tremor here in NYC was a little dramatic, although I understand it scared people who had never felt a quake before (hard to imagine, for me). That said, this photo series is quite humorous!

I grow tired of hearing people from the west coast saying how we should react during an earthquake in a region where there are never earthquakes and always worries about terrorist attacks.

Well, I live on the east coast and felt the quake too. I was sitting in my cubicle and thought the guy in the cube attached to mine was jiggling his foot against it. That is all. I didn't even know it was an earthquake. It wasn't until about a half hour later everyone starting acting like we had experienced armegedon. Rednecks hollering, "Hoo boy, did you feel that earthquake?! Five point nine, they said!" Shut up, idiots. "Five! Point NINE!" Mountains out of mole hills.
And yes, these photos are hilarious.
