Osama bin Laden is Dead

President Obama called a late night news conference to announce that Osama bin Laden is dead. He was shot in a firefight in Pakistan:

Osama bin Laden, the Saudi extremist whose al-Qaida terrorist organization killed more than 3,000 people in coordinated attacks on the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001, is dead following a military operation in Pakistan and the U.S. has recovered his body, U.S. President Barack Obama announced Sunday night.

"Justice has been done," the president declared as crowds formed outside the White House to celebrate, singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "We Are the Champions," NBC News reported.

Obama said bin Laden, whom he called a terrorist "responsible for the murder of thousands of American men, women and children," was killed in Pakistan earlier in the day after a firefight in a military operation that was based on U.S. intelligence.

Oh, please! He's been dead for years! Only a fool would believe that the most advanced country on earth would not be able to catch a supposed 'terrorist' for more than a decade.
A terrorist, a dictator, a threat, all crucial variables to keep up the charade of protecting the citizens from the boogeyman, and in the process take all their rights away.
All of it so nauseating, so contrived, so pathetic, so transparent of what they're doing. All show, all an act, theatre, facade, stupidities.
Now, Obama will be held as the one who caught Osama. LOL What a world!

Please, Jdoozie, explain to us with your proprietary enlightenment, why, if it's all been a ruse, that Bush himself didn't "break" the story of killing bin Laden and reap the credit?

Wait, let me guess ... even Bush and Obama were in the dark, all fed disinformation by the Illuminati.

LOL at idiot conspiracy theorists above.

Hurray that we finally got him. I'm especially happy that U.S. special forces took him down in a fire fight, sustained no casualties, and recovered his body.

This is a great day for everybody in the whole world who isn't an evil murderous terrorist.

One of the central characteristics of a conspiracy theory is that evidence contradicting the theory is interpreted to be all part of the conspiracy. So somehow conspiracy theorists manage to flip evidence against their theory in their heads into evidence that supports it.

This is why once a person buys into a consiracy it is very difficult to change their mind.

Someone please explain why we can't do this to that mad man in Libya? And while we are at it, how is this different from the directive against assassination?

Executive Order 11905 - Restrictions on Intelligence Activities: Section 5(g) Prohibition of Assassination. No employee of the United States Government shall engage in, or conspire to engage in, political assassination.

Last I check Osama Bin Laden was not a political head or employee of a government orginization recognized by the world.

Osama Bin Laden died of natural causes. This is all part of the US manipulation of its own people. National pride that allows them to swallow the justification for Oil Wars, global market exploitation, and inflated prices which make the ultra-rich even richer and make the poor idiot poorer and less informed.

I dunno... this just really rubs me the wrong way.
I'm really not one for conspiracy theories (although I find them interesting to read), but something about this doesn't sit well with me.
*shrugs*
Whatever.... one psycho gone, 10 more will take his place and be worse.

"This is why once a person buys into a consiracy it is very difficult to change their mind."

And that is why the majority stupidly believe everything the mainstream media tells them, without questioning, simply thinking that they always tell the truth. If they say A is D, then A IS D.

Conspiracies, or anything outside the box of the conditioned world, gets attacked by the media ad nauseam, by including such information within the context of a tv show, film, movie, and then have the characters react to it in a politically correct way, that way conditioning YOU to act the same way.

Think for yourself. Don't let the idiot box do it. A is A. :oP

Here's an idea! The Neatoshop has a variety of cleverly designed wireless computer mice that have a little thingy on the top called a "scroll wheel" that lets you pass over items on a page that are of no interest, or that you already know, or that are unpleasant to read.

Try one! You'll like it!

Executive Orders are not voted on in Congress. They have no judicial review ... and they are not law.

We have been conditioned to mock and ridicule any attempt to question the 'offical' line.

The 'official' line is not always 'all' of the truth, nor is it always true at all.

When someone asks logical questions like "how do 2 plans topple 3 buildings in a manner that all three fall identically?"..people who can not bear to consider the ramifications of that question ridicule and attack the person asking a perfectly sane, intelligent question.

Society has been conditioned to keep their questions and skepticism to themselves...lest they be shunned and mocked.

Conspiracy theory is not a disease, it is an understanding that sometimes rich and powerful people manipulate the truth to stay rich and powerful.

Could the freepers please return to their regular forums? Go back and feed your conspiracy fantasies there.

BTW, no I don't buy into the mainstream media; I don't believe everything they tell me; I tend to ignore them most of the time. But I'm also not going to listen to a handful of psych patients with blogs.

According to conspiracy theorists, there are two types of people besides themselves:

a. Those who are in on it.

b. Those who believe everything they're told by those who are in on it.

The funny thing to me is that the self-proclaimed free-thinkers all repeat the same arguments they read on each other's websites.

@Persephone- amen.
@Jim- did I dream the news posts that he nearly did go down yesterday (or the day before)? Or was he not close at the time? Can't find the report I saw yest about the attack in Libya...

@Jdoozie,

Thanks for the patronising lecture, but I consider myself a skeptic and a freethinker, and I am always trying to improve my critical thinking skills.

I do not believe everything the media tells me (far from it), nor did I comment on whether I agreed or disagreed that OBL is dead, but clearly people who are so certain that OBL died years ago and the US government has covered it up without a shread of evidence are buying into a conspiracy theory.

And I'd just like to point out that when I say I am a skeptic and a freethinker, I am using those words in the sense of scientific skepticism and the skeptical movement, which applies the same critical eye towards conspiracy theories as everything else. I disapprove of global warming denialists ,9/11 "truthers", and birthers hijacking these terms for themselves.

I detectest a twinge of jealousy on this blog. I'm a bit put off myself that he gets 72 virgins and I don't. Us Catholics (actually former Catholics) don't even get a handshake. I'll turn 70 this month and I'm not really sure what the hell I'd do with 72 virgins in the first place. How much do you wanna bet that before the year is over the Enquirer will host a photo of Elvis, Hoffa, and Bin Laden together in a bar at some undisclosed location.

I kinda thought he had died years ago, and Al Qaeda was just pumping out old or faked audio of him. It's nice to see that they finally got him.

Why is that nice? How can I feel better knowing that a person has died? Maybe because that person callously and cold-bloodedly orchestrated several different plots to kill people.

When I went outside that evening, after hearing the news, the world seemed just a little different. His death won't solve the world's problems, but it's a huge symbolic burden relieved. The world just got a tiny bit less insane, a little less diabolical.
Abusive comment hidden. (Show it anyway.)
@Ben Eshbach, consiracy theorists/true believers call themselves skeptics and freethinkers when they are anything but.

To be truly skeptical is to employ critical thinking to assess all the available evidence as well as the quality of evidence before coming to a conclusion on a dubious claim, as well as the ability to change one's mind if new evidence is presented.

Conspiracy theorists on the other hand have already made up their mind and use confirmation bias to accept evidence that supports their argument while disregarding evidence that contradicts it as all part of the consiracy. This is not freethinking.

Being convinced of the righteousness of his cause and a religious zealot, OBL probably prayed for the souls of every innocent life lost on 9/11. I hope the faithful in the crowds cheering his demise (and I am sure there were plenty) afforded him the same courtesy.

But how is this going to undo the zeal of the Qutbists and is that really the best thing?

Osama Bin Laden was a follower of the ideology of Sayyid Qutb who conceived of the westernization of Islamic countries as a violation of their rights to Islamic culture, which in Islam justifies ascent to Jihad bil Saif (warfare).

There are few justifications for Jihad bil Saif but threats to the Islamic value system. Which Qutb perceived to be occuring with the growing westernization of Islamic countries and the gross interference by Russia and the United States.

Qutb and Bin Laden are dead, but Jihad bil Saif has been instigated already and that is what needs to be addressed, primarily by demonstrating to Islamic countries their autonomous right to reject western values and maintain their own.
