Zombie-Proof House

By John Farrier in Architecture, Society & Culture on Apr 27, 2011 at 4:06 pm

The architectural firm KWK Promes takes security very seriously. Its “Safe House” design, at the push of a button, drops steel shutters, swings concrete slabs over windows, and lifts a drawbridge. For those of you who think that this is silly (because zombies, unlike vampires and werewolves, aren’t real), just remember:

If you’re prepared for the zombie apocalypse, a hurricane is just a storm.

You say zombies aren’t real, but the truth is that they do exist, just not in human form. There are many examples in the animal kingdom where a parasitic worm or fungus “zombifies” the host organism, completely taking over the hosts actions, usually with the motive of making more copies of the parasite. Dawkins talks about this a bunch in his concept of the extended phenotype.

I keep a box of baking soda in my refrigerator to ward off a zombie attack. I can attest to its effectiveness, because I’ve never seen a zombie near my house.

Now that is a house I’d buy. No gnaw-through walls or neighbour problems. And when you see the flash light of mother-in-law on a dark winter night – just lift the drawbridge. I like it.

That is my kind of house! I’m always thinking of the best places to be for a zombie apocalypse. It would def hold up if it also includes a green house, solar or wind power, and its own water supply.

Even without the shutters, it’s a cool design.

Throw in a moat with some way to burn the zombies that fall into it & I’ll take it.

As a person that frequently has nightmares about the zombie apocalypse, this comforts me tremendously.
I can think of nothing better than stocking up on supplies, piling my immediate and extended family in there (including pets), and just cranking up the volume on my giant TV when the zombies bang on the steel doors…

“Zombies” is just code for the hungry hoardes, post-obama…
