The World of Competitive Grocery Bagging

(Video Link)

People who bag groceries for a living have to work quickly and efficiently without breaking anything. Not everyone is good enough to make it as a bagger, but some are superb at the task. And they can enter the world of competitive bagging. The above video is a trailer for Read, Set, Bag!, a documentary about this sport.

After watching a bagger try to cram a loaf of bread into the same bag as a gallon of milk and a 2-liter bottle of Coke, I'd prefer to bag my own groceries.

Around here, the stores are "encouraging" you to bag your own, by not helping until everything is rung up. So, either a lost art, or every customer gets to be a pro.

That's pretty good set of requirements for almost any job. Except maybe omelette maker.

It does remind me of when I and my fellow overqualified Pizza Hut workers held pizza box folding competitions. Yeah, it was fierce!
