Man Gets Shot Twice, Decides to Have a Sandwich Before Moseying Over to the Hospital

By John Farrier in Crime & Law, Society & Culture on Nov 11, 2010 at 6:45 pm

Miguel Soto bought a sandwich at a deli and walked home. While on his way, he was shot twice. But Soto didn’t let that problem distract him from having his meal:

Police say a 25-year-old Connecticut man who was shot twice after buying a sandwich at a New Haven deli went home and ate his lunch before going to the hospital. Miguel Soto said he was leaving the deli Tuesday when he heard three gunshots. One bullet hit him in the left leg, another in the groin. Police said he went home and ate the sandwich before asking his father to take him to a hospital.

Well, it depends on what kind of sandwich it was. If it was a REALLY good corned beef and mustard on rye from Attman’s in Baltimore, I might delay going to the hospital myself!

Yeah well I can imagine that he felt he had to get over his initial shock from being hit by bullets. So what do you do when you don’t want to have a strong drink and a smoke? You cuss and rant ans swear for a while and you have a lovely sandwich. And only then when the stress is down to reasonable levels again, you talk with someone about the possibilities of medical help and hospital and all that costly shit that probably isn’t covered by your medical insurance policy so it’ll cost you an arm and a leg anyway…

It’s probably really hard to make a good decision after getting shot twice. :S

Maybe it was “OH GOD I’M GOING TO DIE……. better go while eating a delicious sandwich.” Then later on “Oh look at that, not actually dead! Better get to a hospital then.”

He may have a high tolerence for pain but he must have made a bloody mess. There’s a lot of blood vessels in the groin.

This reminds me of a story a ER nurse told me during my CPR course; a young boy was bitten by a rattlesnake on the leg. So his parents started to take him to the ER but since he was crying due to the snake bite they decided to take him to McDonald’s to get a happy meal so he would stop crying. By the time they finally got to the ER it was to late and the venom had all ready made it’s way to the kids vital organs. Most people never die from a rattlesnake bite if you get the venom out or get a shot of the anti-venom in a timely manner but because they decided to get their kid a happy meal he died. She also had a great story about the guy who thought hooking up himself to his car battery would counter act the rattlesnake venom… I think you can tell the outcome of that story!

A good sandwich from a good deli in CT is totally worth eating after being shot. I’d like to think I would have done the same thing.

@dru taylor: Man, that’s a sad story. Now you’ve made me depressed. Here I am thinking about delicious sandwiches one minute and the next I’m thinking about a poor dead kid who suffered an excrutiating death because of his idiot parents. I’m going to go hug my son now.
