Dropping a 1,169-Pound Pumpkin on a Car from 175 Feet Up

(Video Link)

Utah's largest pumpkin for the year, weighing in at 1,169 pounds, was dropped on an old Pontiac after being hefted up by a 175-foot crane:

The pumpkin was grown by Matt McConkie from Mountain Green and it is calculated that the descent of the giant pumpkin reached a top speed of 67.1mph for 3.1 seconds before meeting its end.

Kind of unsatisfying. If you're going to drop anything on a car (tonne of water, grand piano, another car, whatever) leave the car complete. In particular taking the glass out really spoils the effect.

@Juice - Those giant pumpkins couldn't be considered food even if you were starving. The texture and the taste are disgusting. Just like most freak fruit and veg, they were developed for size not flavour or nutrition.

From the 1991 movie L.A. STORY:

A YOUNG SARAH JESSICA PARKER: "Do you like Smashing Pumpkins?"
STEVE MARTIN, A MUCH OLDER GUY TRYING TO MAKE TIME WITH A YOUNGER WOMAN: "Are you kidding? I love doing that!"

@vonskippy, I doubt it. It would be full of glass, metal, and plastic.

I don't think when they get that big that the pumpkin itself is all that edible, so it's not an excessive or disgusting amount of food wasted.
