The Royal National Library of The Netherlands has a collection of over a thousand hand-bound books dating back as far as 800 years. In my opinion, the reference being made to Harry Potter seriously underrates the enchanting beauty of it. In 1914, little things like this were still very organic and real.

People are remarking on the similarity, and hell this could be where Rowling got the idea in the first place! In fact it makes it even more enchanting, because obviously if it was true then she thought the image and idea were striking.
