Tiger Woods PETA Billboard Ad

By Alex in Advertising, Animals & Pets, Pictures on Feb 25, 2010 at 2:25 pm

Good news: Tiger Woods return to advertising. Bad news: Involuntarily and for PETA. ;)

Moments after his sex scandal was revealed, companies pulled their Tiger Woods ads and the golfer went from ubiquitous to pretty much invisible. Is Tiger’s days as product endorsement champ over? Not to PETA!

The animal-rights group came up with the "cheeky spay-and-neuter" billboard above (without the golfer’s approval) that will surely bring a resurgence to all those bad Tiger Woods jokes:

It will be a challenge to find an advertiser to put up the sign, acknowledged Virginia Fort, a campaigner with PETA who is working on the project.

"It’s a fun, tongue-in-cheek approach. We hope these billboard companies will understand," Fort said.

She said the billboard isn’t meant to offend the golfer, his family or fans, but to prevent millions of cats and dogs from being euthanized at shelters each year. [...]

"We’re sure Tiger will appreciate our attempt — from a story that’s distracted the world and followed Tiger — to turn it into something positive for little tigers," she said.

    Just wow.

screw you guys. peta is over the top sometimes… but that’s because animals are treated like objects to be manipulated by man. they do a lot of amazing things for animals, including raising awareness about horrible issues like euthanasia of pets. yes, they are using humor to attract attention to an issue that almost everyone discards.

Get over it. It’s funny. Tiger’s a public figure and they certainly aren’t the first organization to use humor like this. Get a sense of humor. And yeah, PETA can be over-the-top but they have the guts to tackle issues that (apparently, from reading some the comments) hit a nerve. PETA doesn’t bother me. But maybe it’s because I treat animals with respect and have nothing to be ashamed. And yeah, I eat meat and they would rather I didn’t but that’s their opinion. I respect it but I choose to ignore it.

You should understand that PETA is an organization full of humongous hypocrites. Yes, they fight for a good cause, but in a controversial and violent way. They’re known to have funded the Animal Liberation Front projects, the organization behind violent acts for animal rights such as bombing testing facilities with not only people in them, but animals as well. PETA has in fact killed animals because they can’t fit them into their shelters. I have no problem with their ideals. It’s just that their solutions are something to be questioned.

Stay classy PETA. I seriously doubt PETA thinks this will change ANYONE’s mind. This is all about notoriety and they’re getting it, aren’t they.

Why does PETA constantly think that they can ignore the law in the name of “the greater good”? I don’t care what they are accomplishing; if they can’t do it legally, they need to find another way. This is pathetic. Just get permission first, is that so hard?

I love animals more than most people. Don’t care for PETA. Tired of the Tiger jokes. But that…was pretty good…

I don’t care about Tiger Woods or golf, but leave the man alone already. So he’s a dick – get over it.

It’s okay to make fun of Tiger Woods, but the minute making fun of him might actually promote something GOOD, well, there I draw the line.

Jade, why don’t you actually learn something before you go around saying “screw you guys?” PETA routinely euthanizes MORE animals than any other shelter. The only way these hypocrites are “raising awareness” about this issue is by trying to dispose all of the bodies before everyone catches wind of their ill-doings.

Mr Woods, I refuse to believe you endorse PETA until you appear before us bloodied, prostate, and swaddled in cellophane like a Christmas ham.

On a related note, I have no idea why the nice door-to-door PETA campaigners ran away screaming for their lives when I made the same request to them a few days ago…

Just FYI, it is in no way illegal to post a public-domain picture of a public figure as part of your advertising campaign, whether they agree or not.

Or do you think that George W Bush posed for all of those anti-Bush ad campaigns, signed off on them, and was paid for them?

It’s a little tougher and more risky to use someone for whom you did not get a release form; for example, if you make it appear that they are endorsing your product, and they haven’t, you can get in a lot of trouble. But I don’t think too many people will be confusing this billboard with Tiger Woods endorsing anyone.

I don’t care about PETA one way or the other, but if you’re going to comment about stuff, is it too much to ask that you have a hint of a clue about what you’re talking about? Oh wait, this is neatorama… never mind.

    For PETA
4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, 3 who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

PETA= People for Eating Tasty Animals!

PETA(n): the village idiot who does not know how to hunt of fish.

This doesn’t mention that the only place they planed to put the billboard up was in a city very near his home town, these people are ridiculous.

    Um…Patricia, Patricia, Patricia…
    Wow…
Michael Vick was involved with dog fighting.
That is way, way, way worse than being a homosexual–whether that homosexual eats fruits off the naked bodies of his/her fellow homosexual friends or not. But thanks for sharing your secret little fantasy with us.
Why don’t you try to stay “busy and nicer” and not be such a homophobe?
