11 of the Most Bizarre DUI Stories Ever Told

By Miss Cellania in Auto & Transportation, Crime & Law on Dec 30, 2009 at 10:41 pm

You don’t have to be actually driving a car to be arrested for drunk driving. People have been arrested while operating a horse-and-buggy, a golf cart, or even a couch.

In perhaps the most absurd DUI case ever recorded, Dennis LeRoy Anderson, a 62 year old Minnesota couch potato with far too much time on his hands, was charged with DUI after crashing his motorized La-Z-Boy couch into a parked car. On October 22nd, 2009, Anderson swigged down far too many beers before taking his hot rod couch out for a spin around town. The couch, which was powered by a lawn mower engine, came strapped with a music-pumping boom box, a living room lamp, and cup holders to store his beer while steering.

Actually some of those don’t make sense – the charge is a DUI, which covers MOTORIZED vehicles…obviously that’s not a horse….

Dennis Anderson, the guy in Minnesota was on a chair, not a couch. I know this cause it was my hometown, and I graduated from high school with the chief of police. The chair was sold on ebay, item number 150385696050 as a police auction.

Stupid waste of cyberspace. Motorized couch? No. It is a motorized four wheel vehicle with a couch for a seat. You call that absurd Mr. Writerman? I wonder how the owner of the parked car the guy ran into feels about it. Dumbest post ever on Neatorama.

My uncle walked home from a bar, 3 miles in freezing cold temps. He needed to move his truck 10 feet, to put it in the driveway. Charged with DUI, clearly the police had nothing better to do than follow him home, during his responsible walk home.

DUI applies to ANY vehicle that is on the road. If you drink and ride a bicycle, thats a ticket

This guy should definitely be locked up. One can’t just create your own vehicle, there are DMV guidelines. Although, the ebay auction is quite amusing.

Yes, DUI includes ANY vehicle like Random said. Bicycle and horse and buggy included. That couch vehicle is funny as hell though. :)
