The “Click-Out” Art of Michael Johansson

By John Farrier in Art on Dec 16, 2009 at 10:01 am

Artist Michael Johansson makes full-sized objects that look like plastic click-out models. The dingy pictured above, entitled “Toys ‘R’ Us”, is a 1:1 scale model made from functional boating equipment and a welded metal frame. Gallery at the link.

That’s superb – though the pedant in me would like to point out that you wouldn’t get a double-walled hull like that on a single moulding – that’s rather the point, it’d come on two sprues and be assembled by the modeller.

I think I saw that boat in Orebro .

One improvement I might suggest… The surface should be a mottled mix of puke colors – like those found on the most obscure and geeky model kits.

James May did a similar thing, but with the iconic Spitfire, on his BBC program “Toy Stories”

As someone in uk.rec.sheds pointed out – if it’s Spitfire kits you want and have an unspecified but very large amount of money to spare…
