    It's funny (love the Dixie horns), but I swear Deliverance was the first thing I thought of when I saw that scene way back when. I thought Spielberg was doing a kind of homage.

    You might be a redneck if...an alien seems usually attracted to you, gets you drunk on what he says is Coors, and lures you on to his space ship. Then ditches you the next morning in some field buck naked like you were a last call hook up they regret they had.

    Well, the description is very racists. However if the person writing the description is a Caucasian of southern origin, then it is OK to use language like that. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to say "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind with a southern twist." Thus avoiding the racial slur? I thought we here on this blog were enlightened by our progressive views. Maybe I was wrong.

    However, I'm pretty sure the word redneck refers to the movie Deliverance. Which is about as redneck as it gets.

    Another poor Appalachian here and I'm pretty sure that redneck refers to the kerchiefs worn by laborers during the unionization of the appalachian coalfields to differentiate themselves from the imported hired thugs. Your acceptance of the dehumanisation of a culture to take it's wealth doesn't make it any less racist.
