Lost Luggage

Remember Dave Carroll of the group Sons of Maxwell who wrote the song United Breaks Guitars after seeing his guitar abused? He flew United Airline again on Sunday on his way to speak to a group of customer service executives. Then he spent an hour at the baggage claim because United lost his luggage!

In an interview, Mr. Carroll said that for more than an hour on Sunday, he was told he could not leave the international baggage claim area at Denver International Airport, where he had flown from Saskatchewan. He said he had been told to stay because his bag was delayed, not lost, and he had to be there to claim it when it came down the conveyor belt.

“I’m the only person pacing around this room,” Mr. Carroll said, recalling how he was caught between an order from United staff members to stay and collect his bag, and a federal customs official telling him he had to leave the baggage claim area. The bag never showed.

Carroll got his bag back on Wednesday. Link -via YesButNoButYes

Your baggage never shows up on the next flight. Report it missing, leave and use the time you save to find replacements for what was lost. If the crew will not take your report, call the home office in front of them.

Mr. Carroll is clearly too patient and forgiving.

    LESSON: STOP FLYING UNITED.

Two years ago my spouse flew United for the first and last time. She flew to Myrtle Beach SC, her luggage went to Charleston SC. She drove the 2 hours there, got a hotel, and the back to Myrtle Beach the next day as United said it would take 3 days to get her luggage to her. No reparation was made. Flying back to Toronto ON her flight was redirected to Buffalo NY because of undisclosed issues. Her luggage was lost again. This time I drove the 2 hours, we got a hotel, drove home to Toronto the next day.It took 3 more days for her stuff to arrive. No reparation was made.

    United - WORST airline ever.

Why did he do it again if the experience scarred him so the first time?

One would think that he flew United again because they invited him to talk to their customer service reps about his experience and they paid for his flight. The real question is....why would he check his luggage with them again, after the last time????

Here is a quote from the NY Times article linked in the post:
    [quote]
Greg Gianforte, the founder and chief executive of RightNow, a customer service software company, and the person who organized the meeting, said he was sorry to hear what happened to Mr. Carroll, even if it made for a livelier meeting.

“We were thrilled to have Dave come here,” Mr. Gianforte said. “But since United was the only carrier he could take from Canada to Colorado Springs, in a certain sense, we’re responsible.”
    [end quote]

I guess they are the only carrier with a direct flight. I imagine he should book indirect flights with a different carrier.
