Busy College Undergrad Got a Job For You: Be His Personal Assistant

Posted by Alex in Everything Else on October 24, 2009 at 11:36 am

Psst! Need a job? Here’s an opening for you: $10 to $12 an hour, with the possibility of an occassional bonus. All you have to do is cater to the "everyday tasks" of a Georgetown University sophomore.

That’s right. Charley Cooper is a busy kid. He’s got classes, homework, and even a part-time job at a financial services company. So he’s looking for a personal assistant to handle the mundane part of everyday living like doing laundry, organizing his closet, and so on:

Cooper, 19, logged on to the university’s student employment Web site last week and posted an ad for someone to tackle "some of my everyday tasks," such as organizing his closet, dropping him off and picking him up from work, scheduling haircuts, putting gas in the car and taking it in for service, managing his electronic accounts and doing laundry (although the assistant will be paid only for the time spent loading, unloading and folding clothes, not the entire laundry cycle).

The successful applicant can expect to work three to seven hours a week and make $10 to $12 an hour, although "on occasion it will be possible to work additional hours and/or receive bonuses at my discretion." Preference will be given to Georgetown undergraduates, Cooper says in the listing, and the assistant can spread his or her tasks throughout the day.

"As my PA you will receive an email once a day by 9:00 am with a task list for that day and a time estimate for each task," Cooper wrote in the job listing, which was first reported by the student newsmagazine, Georgetown Voice. "Important tasks will be bolded on the list and must be done that day (even though everything on the list should theoretically be finished on a daily basis). At the end of the day you will send me an email telling me what tasks are incomplete or that all tasks have been completed."

He is going to a $40,000 a year school and he can pay someone $10 to $12 an hour to do stuff for him?

He's growing up to be the fine douchebag his parents always wanted him to be...

Yes, he's a wuss, but just for fun... what if he didn't have a part-time job so he had time to do all his own chores. That's like going to work and spending all your money on a babysitter, when you could just stay home, and it'd be BETTER.

I don't get what the big deal is? he's rich and he doesn't want to do laundry etc... happens everyday. do you do your own dry cleaning? deliver your own packages?

americans love to pretend that we are all equals. we are not. some people's time is worth more money, simple as that.

besides, he's creating jobs. you guys are all overreacting.

Some guys get a wife to do all if this stuff. I have no problems with personal assistants...I wish I had someone to help.

Lets just cut to the chase here: The only reason this guy is doing this is so that he can employ the best looking female applicant and hope that she either falls for him of offers other "personal" services.

I agree with Mr Joe. Now that I think about it, it does sound like a lot of very creepy Craigslist ads; this kid is just getting a head start at such a young age and already posting them.

I had a similar thought as Mr. Joe's. It does come off a bit d-baggy, though. (Perhaps it's the photo... he kind of looks like he'd be one.)

Well, dbag or not, at least someone might be getting a job.
Guy really needs to learn how to manage his time better and do all that crap himself though.

Well, of course he's a douchebag. Just don't be jealous about it.

Here's a guy who is going to school full time and working a part-time job, most likely in his field of study. Financial services not barista. It may be a little like working to pay the babysitter, but it's more like paying the babysitter to pad your resume. But he's only paying $36-84 per week. If it gives him more time to study and/or party then I can see why we would all be so jealous. I think the man is brilliant.

Dude. In the amount of time it would take me to plan and write an email with time estimates of tasks for the day, I could load my own laundry, schedule my own hair appointment, and organize my own closet. Maybe he's just trying to put on some weight.

I'm with DW on this. It's no different than someone hiring a housekeeper. Sounds like everybody's just ranting about him because he's a young college student.

If the boy feels that his time is that precious, and he has the means to afford an assistant, I say go for it! I know plenty of people who would be happy to apply.

big deal! he wants some help and can afford it! He's not really asking for anyone with specific requirements, so the hourly rate is fine! If you can afford a PA why the fuck not?
