The Anatomy of Japanese Monsters

Posted by Miss Cellania in Movies & SciFi on September 30, 2009 at 11:30 am

See inside Godzilla, Gamera, and a couple of other movie monsters in poster form. If I could only read Japanese to find out where their weak spots are, then I, too, could save the world! Link -via Digg

Upodate: These are from the book An Anatomical Guide to Monsters by Shoji Otomo with illustrations by Shogo Endo, from 1967. More information can be found at Pink Tentacle, including partial translations. -Thanks, algomeysa!

Hmmm, not derived from Earthly stock - the double bones in the upper bit of each limb gives that away.

Per Hunting Lodge (http://www.huntinglodge.no/blog/?p=1426) this is from:

An Anatomical Guide to Monsters, 1967. Text: Shoji Otomo. Illustrator: Shogo Endo.

I see Gamera, Mothra (larva stage), Godzilla, and...

..who's the fellow with the spikes on his head and the Rhino horn?

That's Anguirus! I found out by following the information you gave me.

A friend informs me the spiked, horned one is Anguirus, from the 2nd Godzilla movie, GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN (1955). Interesting that this book included Gamera, since Godzilla, Mothra, Anguirus are from Toho, and Gamera is from rival studio Daiei. This book must be on Big Man Japan's bookshelf!
