The Blood Lamp

By Miss Cellania in Home & Garden on Sep 27, 2009 at 8:04 am

The Blood Lamp only works once, and you need to add of a drop of your blood to activate it! The idea is to stop and think about how badly you need light before you use it. Designer Mike Thompson created the lamp in order to draw attention to how much energy we waste. Link -via Dark Roasted Blend

Given the nosebleed I have right now, I have enough blood to run that thing for a year.

    Envirotwats.

That’s so cool but how does it actually work? Why is it a one time use?

There’s more information at the link. It’s one-use because you have to break it open, then combine chemicals to turn it on.

Seems kinda non-environmentally friendly if it’s a one use deal.

I would probably break the whole thing when trying to get it to work. Interesting

so in order to draw attention to how much energy we waste he is actively creating waste? huh?

Um. And how much energy did he use to create this? As a diabetic, I’m monumentally unimpressed with the “significance” of having to add a drop of blood. :)

It’s the same substance used to find hidden blood on shows like CSI. It’s called Luminol and you can use a variety of agents to activate it, not just blood.

luminol does not make blood glow, Luminol makes blood flouresce under a UV light.

I agree that making it one-use as a way to point out wastefullness is self defeating.

If it was multi-use, however, it would be loved by goths. Vampire light!

But is not a product, it’s a warning. I think its cool.
