I read somewhere that bare-knuckle boxing was a lot safer – you couldn’t hit someone that hard with your bare fist and fights stopped long before brain damage happened. Fatalities were almost unheard of and it’s hard to imagine a modern boxing match lasting six and quarter hours as the record bare-knuckle match did.
