USB Microscope

Granted, it’s not as useful as the USB missile launcher, but this 150x microscope could come in handy around the office. It’s currently available only in Japan, so you may have to content yourself with the missile launcher for now.

Amazon, ThinkGeek, and IWOOT (for the UK folks) all sell similar items.

They’re fun to play with, but get boring relatively quickly (although my 5 year old got one for her birthday in February and still brings stuff in from outside to look at).

For people living in Australia, you can buy one from Aldi for $49 AUD

Microscopes are very handy to have round the house anyway. I had to replace the shoulder switch on my son’s Nintendo DSl the other day – without the stereo microscope it’d have been really hard to make sure all three solderpads had connected – the switch is about a 3mm cube and was surface mounted – the solder has to go underneath.
