A Shower That Uses Waste Water to Grow Plants and Recycles the Rest

By John Farrier in Gadgets, Hacks & Mods on Aug 10, 2009 at 2:44 pm

Still in the concept stage, the Phyto-Purification Bathroom and Shower would make your bathroom more environmentally friendly:

Using a natural filtering principle called phyto-purification, the bathroom becomes a mini-eco-system by recycling and regenerating the wastewater.

The water from the shower and the washbasin is filtered through an organic system before being re-used.

Phyto-purification is a natural water-recycling process which is commonly used in ecological purification systems.

Love the concept, but not sure in the point of having plants grow right there in the shower. Wouldnt it be more efficient if the water was transported outside somehow so wildlife can benefit from it?

I see horrific molds on the horizon.

I love this. Thoroughly unnecessary, but visually very appealing.

It’d have to dump the heat somewhere first. Actually, reclaiming the heat from the waste would probably be a)easier and b) have a greater environmental impact for your money.

I’d like to know the ecological impact of lightning the whole day an usually dark room like a bathroom.

Aaah yes! Nothing like a dash of ornamental nature for the shower. No more wasted water, just grass, fronds, cat tails, pond scum, and some horrid garden dwelling centipede crawling between your feet.

I doubt they’d actually want you to grow plants around your shower. That’s just the concept guy going crazy.

Geez, If a swamp is growing around you in the shower. Your spending way too much time in the shower.

My shower already looks like this. Maybe i should clean it more often.

they could hook a composting toilet up to it too. Or better yet just go in the shower.

I’m glad to see the spirit of those “Modern Mechanics” loopy inventions lives on in the 21st century.

    Another enviro-concept mock-up that is ridiculous,someone ring a bell.

I agree with charlesH…where there are plants there are bugs.

While the idea of a garden around my shower is tempting, just give me an easy gray water recycling system.

I’d prefer the simplicity of a greywater system for watering the lawn or garden, too.

There is a cheese factory in Wisconsin that uses a “Living Machine” incorporating plants to treat it’s waste water.

You’d probably have to use somesort of hippy soap that doesn’t really work well so that it doesn’t kill the plants or the biofilter system.
