Intricate 3D Paintings

By Jill Harness in Art, Everything Else on Jul 29, 2009 at 9:09 pm

These incredibly lifelike paintings were created by John Pugh who calls his artwork “trick of the eye.”

The Californian-born artist said: ‘It seems almost universal that people take delight in being visually tricked.’

You might look at this as one form of art stepping up where another fails; The paintings work best on buildings with the most boring designs.

Oddly enough, roadrunners can pass through these paintings.

In that case, I must be family of that coyote. ;-)

But I agree with you Kalel.
And that said- The more of this kind of painting- the better.

God, I’ve been going crazy for trompe l’œil artwork lately.

On one of his murals of a giant wave there was this caption:

“Wonder wave: John Pugh’s Mana Nalu mural in Honolulu. Fire crews rushed to save the children from the mighty wave – before realising it was an optical illusion”

You think the fact that the wave *wasn’t moving* would have clued the firefighters into the fact it was a painting?

    I smell BS.

    Splendid – magnificent.

I doubt the firefighter story. You think they’d have had more sense.
