Coffee Cup Art

By Miss Cellania in Art on Jul 29, 2009 at 11:49 am

Cheeming Boey creates small pieces of art by sketching on foam coffee cups! His friends told him they would never sell, but that was before Marion Meyer saw them.

β€œI personally liked them,” says the former president of the Laguna Beach Art Walk. β€œAnd that’s how I select artists. When I connect to the energy and passion someone creates in their art, that’s when I like it.”

Meyer invited Boey to display his cups at her gallery during the monthly Art Walk. They sell for $120 to $220.

Very cool art. I don’t think I’d pay $200 for the art, but very cool.

Nice art, but same reaction here: $200? Not quite.

I have much cheaper index card art if anyone’s interested.

    Seriously.

Someone would have to be in his cups to pay that much.

xadrian, if your index card art is cheaper, then it’s less valuable =) that’s how the art world works, right?

Definitely wouldn’t pay that much. What amazes me is that his friends thought it wouldn’t sell. These are really nice.

Neat. Interesting medium, but there are some… stranger… mediums than marker and coffee cup, so we can forgive him.

Who tells their ‘friends’ “Oh your art will never sell.” Constructive criticism is one thing, but thats kinda of crappy.

I would buy one, I think. After all, it’s Styrofoam and will last longer than some old degradable Picasso. ;)

@absolin You’re probably right. Which is why you won’t see it here…ever. :D

Wow I didn’t think that it was profitable. I do coffee cup drawings during long … loooong boring meetings at werk: http://moourl.com/mdl6o
