Lithuanian composer Mindaugas Piecaitis was inspired by Nora the Piano Playing Cat (featured previously at Neatorama) and composed a concerto for her to perform with an orchestra. Nora appears via videotape. The rest of the music was performed by the Klaipeda Chamber Orchestra. This performance, condicted by Piecaitis, was recorded on June 5th in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Bravo! The piece is very serene, occasionally sparkling (I love the “meow” w/ the strings toward the ending) and Nora’s dodecaphonic interventions on the piano present a nice contrast.

Is it just me – or does it sound very sad in places?

At first I was skeptical. But this was actually very good. On par with some of Abdullah Ibrahim’s best works.
