Fog Harvester

German conservationists Kai Tiedemann and Anne Lummerich came up with an ingenious solution to Peruvian village Bellavista’s water problem. The small village south of the capital city of Lima has very little rainfall but a lot of fog, so the duo set up fog catchers to harvest hundreds of gallons of water a day right out of the air!

The nets stand perpendicular to the prevailing wind, which blows fog into the coarse, woven plastic mesh. From there, drops of fog-water fall into gutters that carry the water to collection tanks.

    The article lies.

I grew up in Lima, and we've had these nets since at least (!) 2003.

Isn't that what Luke Skywalker's uncle did for a living?

These nets were in a article in Hi-lites (a magazine for kids) in the early 1990's. This is not a new concept.

seriously reminds me of Dune. all we need now are walled off water reservoirs so that the pesky sandtrout don't get to the water.

It's nothing new, true. But there is nothing that tells that it is new.
Well, the link maybe, but even the linked article talks about those catchers in Bellavista in the year 2006. Even if this might not be correct.
Anyway, THIS article doesn't say something that is not correct (From what I read).

Thought the title said FROG harvester - now I'm disappointed.

With the surplus water they can sell and create a new business opportunity.
