The Darwin Optical Illusion

If you like the neat color optical illusion posted by Neatoramanaut Minnesotastan from the Upcoming Queue, check this one out by Rob Jenkins of the University of Glasgow and Richard Wiseman of the University of Hertfordshire:

The picture below shows two monkeys. Set your computer monitor to maximum brightness and then stare at the centre of the picture for about 30 seconds without moving your eyes. Next, look to a white wall and blink a few times. The monkeys should suddenly transform into a perfect picture of Darwin!

Erm.. yea.. you just need a bright room now with a wall with an even surface and something to determine the center of the picture.

Way cool. Much better than the Jesus one they showed in science class as a kid.

I focused on the image for about an hour, and then closed my eyes for 5 seconds. When I opened them back up, Charles Darwin was standing right in front of me and punched me square in the jaw. Thanks a lot!

Far better than the Jesus version. Sadly, my mom found the Jesus one inspiring (GFL...mom, its science, not the freakin rapture!) and amazing. Wonder if she'll feel the same way if I send the Darwin one. Muahahaha!

Ha! Now that's clever I did have to squint to get it though.

Having never been to Darwin, Australia, I'll just have to take your word for it, that it looks like that.
