Parkour on Two Wheels: Danny MacAskill Rides a Bike

Posted by Alex in Car & Vehicle, Sports, Video Clips on April 21, 2009 at 4:22 pm

Most of us can ride bikes, but I bet you not like Inspired Bicycles team rider Danny MacAskill. Here’s a video tape of a collection of what can only be described as parkour on two wheels: Link [YouTube clip]

Kids, don’t try this at home. Or on the streets, either.

Actually its called urban trials riding. Although he does have influence from bmx riding.

What is it with skate/bike videos and fish-eye lenses?

'Parkour on Two Wheels' is misleading; this guys spends more time on one or even zero wheels than he does on two. Amazing!

Whenever I hear Parkour, I always think of Tourette's.

Pretty amazing stuff. I'm a decent mountain biker, but I can't imagine having that kind of balance.

Yeah, I have to second the trials comment. It's called urban trials riding and has been around exponentially longer than parkour and is a hell of a lot harder.

He's gonna kill those trees if he (and/or others) continues to use them for his acrobatics.

Yep, dalucero, it still is on the queue the time I'm posting this. Wondered the same thing.

Don't you mean what Kottke (via waxy) can only describe as parkour on a bicycle? How about some attribution?

Actually, Parkour is a relatively new sport when compared to bicycle trials riding. So to call this Parkour on wheels is like describing surfing as "snowboarding, but on the beach".

Ive watched this about six times since yesterday morning. Brings back a lot of childhood memories of just how liberating it was to simply ride. My first backflip was, admittedly, an accident.

Ah, this is so awesome! Makes me want to save up some cash and purchase myself a bike to travel about Toronto. Feel that cool air and the freedom of the streets. :)

Yeah Trials riding is the bomb. You out to check out Ryan Leech as well. He is not mortal.

What kind of tires are those? To take that kind of pounding without blowing has to be something non-traditional. If that was a usual bike, it'd have a seat, and he'd be popping more than tires.

What came first? Trials? Or Parkour?

I actually wrote a post about this very question today on my blog (linked above)! It gets more "old school" than you might think and it gives props to Neatorama for being not just a fun site, but a fun comunity as well.
