Bus Shelters Announces Your Weight

Posted by Queuebot in Advertising on March 14, 2009 at 9:03 pm

Self-conscious about your weight?  Think twice before sitting on a bench in a bus shelter in Amsterdam!

To be more precise, some bus shelters in Amsterdam have been fitted with weight meters that show people waiting for the public transportation what their weight is and whether they should start losing some extra flab.

I like it. I didnt even think of it as a comment on obesity just an interesting place to put a scale.

Seems like a good way to get people to avoid taking mass transit.

they should have them in the metric system in the US and
people would be stuffing their faces with more nasty, fattening bits thinking they weigh less. typical

let them eat cake, let them be fat

"they should put those in internet cafes and libraries."

They (the ubiquitous they) should put them in front of grocery stores, convenience stores, bars, and fast food joints.

Hey, I saw some Americans yesterday that weren't fat; how quaint.

"Seems like a good way to get people to avoid taking mass transit."

Only if the bus charges by the pound.

    No thanks, driver. I'll walk.

I guess that would be why they call it mass transit.

Isn't it funny how so much really wild or innovative advertising centers around mass transit?

I'm sure we've all see the galleries of crazy bus graphics, like the doors that look like shark teeth and things like that.

And there's plenty of really interesting bus stop ads like this one.

    Weird.

Wow. I'm not fat, I know the metric system, and I am American. thisisit, you do realize that the stupid/fat American jokes are really old and beyond ignorant, right? Why don't you find a more creative way to express your hatred, or are you just too stupid?

Moving swiftly on, I think that this is horrible. A person's weight is their own business and there is no reason to announce it to a bunch of people you are about to get onto a bus with. It's just another way to pick on fat people. Fat people get bullied enough.

From the article...what their weight is and whether they should start losing some extra flab.

Right, because if you are fat you have no idea that you are or what you should do about it.

thisisit, that statement is either self loathing or you're a health nut.

Amazing that any government feels the need to spend my tax dollars on weighing my arse. Stay out of my bedroom and now my kitchen.

This is absolutely abhorrent. For people struggling with their weight, whether it be trying to lose weight or trying to recover from an eating disorder, this would be incredibly humiliating. I had anorexia several years ago and although i am comfortable with my body now, showing my weight to everyone around me would definitely bring back the feelings of shame and self-loathing that i felt for so long back then.

Coincidentially, the picture is taken in Rotterdam, not Amsterdam. Both in The Netherlands, yes.

I like how thisisit described a situation completely out of fiction, then called the people within that scenario 'typical' distainfully.

He/She was 'unpleasently not suprised' by the characters in his/her own invention. That's quite interesting!

(and no packpedaling with claims of 'joking' or 'sarcasm', just to save face.)

LOL, just a guy. Yeah, such brilliant use of sarcasm, wasn't it, and because "it's just neatorama", which made about as much sense as a screen door on a submarine.
