Keukenhof, which literally translates to kitchen court garden, has been around since 1949 and is the world’s largest and most impressive flower parks. It is a taste of heaven for any tulip lover- with it’s 7 million Dutch bulbs that are planted annually; a real sight for soar eyes. The Keukenhof is great for families; with childrens playgrounds and spots for picnicking. Also of interest for this upcoming summer, the Keukenhof will be commemorating 400 years of the historic relationship between the United States and the Netherlands.

Ive been to the Keukenhof. It’s really pretty, but it’s sooooo extremely busy (think theme parks- or christmas sale – busy) So it’s really hard to take nice pictures without 32840923849348 tourists walking on front of the object you’re trying to capture.

According to the article, Keukenhof will be commemorating the “400 years of the historic relationship between the United States and the Netherlands”. Huh?

400 years ago the city of New Amsterdam was founded by the Dutch (later the British took over and called it New York….York is a city in England).

So this anniversary is about the founding of New Amsterdam and the Dutch-American relationship ever since.

Tulips were actually introduced to the Netherlands from Turkey. It was a gift to the queen. And now they take the credit for it and call it dutch

My wife and I once went to the Bonfante garden to look at the marvelous circus trees. We also enjoyed the Chelsea Flower Show. Great find, mrmunchies!

Ray, I wondered if that was some pun I was missing, since the context doesn`t make any sense. Why would it be a sight for “sore” eyes, anyway?

It would be a sight for soaring eyes if you were looking at it from a plane.

Google “Tulip Mania”, and you’ll find out how stock markets basically got started with tulip bulbs in Holland. And how the first market crash happened shortly thereafter. Heehee. You’d think we could have learned not to do that again…

I live in San Diego and I go to Balboa Park a lot. It’s funny to see something that I take for granted held up as amazing. Thanks for helping me to see Balboa Park and the botanical gardens as new again.

Oh my, that was a balm to my drought-tired eyes! Here in central Texas we’ve been under the worst drought we’ve seen in almost a hundred years. Hardly anything has sprouted, much less flowered. Even our notoriously-hardy bluebonnets have failed to make a showing.

Moody Gardens in Galveston is also amazing. Check it out when y’all visit!

Funny- I live on spitting distance of the Keukenhof.
Regularly I send friends and relatives who visit this country to the Keukenhof because it is so wonderful. I’ve even delivered people to the gates.

…But in over more than 35 years, I’ve never ever have been there myself…

If you ever visited the Netherlands and wondered (like me, in my childhood, and every foreign friend) why so many cars drove around with thick yellow flower garlands on the bonnet: they were visitors of the Keukenhof.

It is called keukenhof because it used to be the wood where the owners of a nearbye castle got their deer from.

It’s not much for showy flowers, but the Japanese garden at Kanazawa is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I’ve ever been:

Some of those gardens are unbelievable. Where I live in Australia we have been in drought for nearly 10 years. No hope of an type of garden.

This is the exact reason I visit Holland every time I go to Europe. You get to see so many of these types of gardens and they really do take your breath away. All the colours and the beauty. Absolutely amazing!
