867-5309

Tommy Tutone made the phone number 867-5309 {wiki} one that everyone remembers -if they were around in 1982 when the song was a hit. Now that phone number is up for sale, available to someone who lives in the same New York area code. A disc jockey who had the number for years is selling his business and the phone number on eBay. Link to story. Link to auction. -via Fark

A few years ago, someone called that number in all N America area codes and documented the results. One of my favs:

519: "[Girl's voice] Hello, you reached Jenny at 867-5309. I'd love to talk to you, leave me a message, but there has been a change in me. [Guy's voice] I'm not Jenny, not Jenny so if you still wanna leave me a message, leave it at the end of the beep. Bye!"

Wouldn't it just be awesome if a lady named Jenny bought it?

I think everyone knows that phone number regardless of whether or not they were around in 82.

That's very creative but I didn't know that number... until now.

Funny, I just saw an ad for a plumbing place (not sure if it's national or local) that used 888 or 866 + the Jenny number. Think there's a legal issue there?

There's a local plumbing company called Benjamin Franklin, and that's their number, and yes, they use the jingle.

Current bid is $4950.00 and the reserve has not yet been met. I can't stand reserves, and I don't really understand why people use them.

In Mississauga Ontario Canada (near where I grew up) there was a 905-867-5309... I was a kid when I called it and promptly hung up because someone actually answered.

I hate reserves on bids. I wish eBay would do away with that feature. Reserves should be the starting bid or they should just make their auctions Buy-Nows.

For a good time.... For a good time!!!!
