Presidential Inauguration in Lego

By Miss Cellania in Everything Else on Jan 16, 2009 at 8:31 am

Legoland in Carlsbad, California has a new display in honor of the presidential inauguration Tuesday. The park has modified its US Capitol model to portray Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, president Bush, Dick Cheney, Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, and the other dignitaries who will be present as Obama takes the oath of office, as well as the crowd! In addition to the swearing-in ceremony, see Aretha Franklin ready to entertain and the presidential motorcade waiting to join the inaugural parade. The display opens to the public today. Pictured is a detail showing George H.W. Bush nodding off. SF Weekly has a slide show featuring many other details. Link -Thanks, Janine Kahn!

I may be in a bad mood today. but, i don’t get how things in Lego’s are still so interesting to people. It’s so 1995.

Now if we could just waste huge piles of money on it just like we are doing in Washington!!! Yay for the worthless things that we buy that got us into the mess we are in now! Go Dems!

legos will always rule, the little engineering that goes into figuring out which pieces to use to replicate something. it’s creative and cute and blocky!

    best toy ever?

I think it’s pretty astoundingly gigantic. That’s a lot of impressive work.

    Best. Toy. Ever.

I lament the arrival/evolution of the newer legos, what with all the specific, pre-made attachments and parts and whatnot. What made lego great was that a child was presented with a bunch of BLOCKS, from which his/her imagination went wild. Alas, today, it seems most everything is already done–they seem more like action figures than a clean slate, a blank canvas.
