Finger Length = Financial Success?

Posted by Miss Cellania in Money & Finance, Science & Tech on January 13, 2009 at 1:55 am

The length of a man’s ring finger appears to predict his success at financial trading. As an indicator, finger length has as much impact as his years of experience. The length ratio of the ring finger to the middle finger is set before birth, and has to do with a fetus’ exposure to androgen, a male hormone.

In the new study, the researchers measured the right hands of 44 male stock traders who were engaged in a type of trade that involved rapid decision-making and quick physical reactions.

Over 20 months those with longer ring fingers compared to their index fingers made 11 times more money than those with the shortest ring fingers. Over the same time the most experienced traders made about 9 times more than the least experienced ones.

Looking only at experienced traders, the long-ring-finger folks earned 5 times more than those with short ring fingers.

While the finger ratio, showing fetal exposure to male hormones, appears to signal likely success in high-actively trading that calls for risk-taking and quick reactions, it may not indicate people who would do well at other sorts of financial activities, the researchers said.

So, guys, if a job interviewer looks at your fingers, they may be checking more than just how clean you keep them. Link -Thanks, Geekazoid!

    Here it is:

"Men and women with somewhat shorter index fingers in proportion to their ring fingers are more likely to be gay, claims a report."

    Great article, Cristophe.

Does anyone remember the Italian study publicized about a year ago? Index finger length correlates penis size. (Better than general finger length, or something like that.)

Together with this study: penis size, sports aptitude, financial success. It makes sense, though I won't go so far as to say that I'm ready to publish. You'll have to draw the lines yourself.

I never needed to measure a man's fingers to judge how masculine he is.

Exactly. It's about how well he uses his tongue.

Where's the Rim shot at the end of that comment Gauldar.

The measure of a man isn't in a ruler.

XuYu, I've always read that index and third fingers of a similar length or with a shorter third finger is a feminine trait and a third finger that is longer than the index finger is a masculine trait. Those whose hands reflect opposite of their sex are more likely to be gay.

Ok, lets take a couple steps back, it's starting to sound a bit to much like Phrenology in here.

No way! According to that article the amazing benefits you get as a male from a low digit ratio (ie. long ring finger) are:

    - more fertile
    - higher lifetime reproductive success
    - more aggressive and assertive
    - greater proclivity toward homosexuality/bisexuality
    - higher musical and sports aptitude
    - lower SES

And what if you have a high digit ratio? You get:

    - higher risk of early heart disease

    Ripped off!

I'm off to get my heart checked.

To clarify, Mrs. C's text said this:
"The length ratio of the ring finger to the middle finger....."
and the article quote says this:
"ring fingers compared to their index fingers"

so... which one are we comparing the ring finger too?

my right finger appears to be slightly longer than my index on one hand, but the reverse is true for the other hand.

    hmm...

(@sirwebster - it would be rich and straight vs poor and gay, given what they said. Shorter ring finger = gay, longer = good at stocks.)

That leads to the obvious question. Are there any drugs that will help you achieve a longer ring finger?
